I know for sure there's a recall for the 2000 Ranger seat belt buckles, I read in the NHTSA website they're a few Rangers with the problem, something about code # on the buckle/belt, does anyone know which numbers are the recall?
so I can save me the trip and time waste to the dealer?
Are ol those things I read recalls?
I don't know what has been done to my Ranger, I just bought the truck about a month ago, so I really need to take the truck to the dealer and ask them to review what the truck needs, I wasn't aware of any recalls, these trucks are nothing but headaches, if you check the Investigation/recalls and read ol the findings, would make you think twice before buying another Ford and/or Ranger.
every vehicle has a list like that. most of it is minor and or not applicable
Matt
Minor or not applicable???????????????????????????????????
C'mon read that again!
I saw pages and pages of problems with these trucks
What's not applicable on that list?
do dealers take care of these issues free of charge?
That I understand, but what about ol the other things that most Rangers have?
and if I ever come across to any of the problems mentioned, do they repair it free of charge? Most of the mechanical parts named in the investigation section are a pretty penny to fix, I mean not cheap!

Cad,
A dealer will fix the problem if there is one related to a driveability issue. Example, on the F150's they had problems with the rotors warping. TSB was issued. A dealer will replace the rotors ONLY if the customer comes in and complains of "vibrations while hard braking." You'll have to HAVE a real issue related to a TSB to get it "fixed" on FORD's nickel.
Recalls will be dine when it's a known (publically) safety issue.
If you play your cards right and say the right things when you take it to a dealer you can get some of this sutff done even though it's not currently problematic. Just gotta word things right and have a good dealer.

CMOS
Ooh c'mon!
Now you're telling me they will fix it or not depends in what mood they are or if I bring flowers to them?
I thought this was a must do thing by law?
Of course they would find many reasons to no fix it for free, if it's a recall they must do it it's the law, ol the other things I don't think they care, but that talking thing my friend in my city won't work they're cheap *******s!
You know what they say money talks and BS......
A TSB is typically just acknowledging a problem, not offering a fix or deeming it worthy of recalling and dealers paying for it. Some TSBs will have solutions or reccommend replacement parts, but most dealers will not fix them for free. An example would be a TSB for my '94...which states that gear noise may be heard when the manual transmission is in neutral and the clutch released. Is the noise hurting anything? No. But would some customers bring the truck in thinking something was wrong? Perhaps, and that's why the TSB is there, so dealers in 1994 could look it up and say, "hey it's normal, no worries" and the person who just dropped $8-11K on a truck will feel better.

Some dealers are more relaxed about paying for TSBs, others are not.
Ok,
so that means they're not obligated by law to do so.
I don't know in your town, but here I couldn't even get a circlip from the dealer
without buying the whole assembling for a lot more $$$, if you don't know someone that works at the dealer you're out of luck.
Some expensive dealers like Mercedes, BMW, and others are more friendly
in that area, specially if you are a good expender with a late model car
you can get a lot of freebies, but Ford is for the poor, and you don't get free gifts, those are the facts.
My closest Ford dealer (a good 20 minutes away) is actually pretty good with customers. Of course parts are expensive (the rebuild kit for the shifter I picked up off eBay for $39.99 was a little over $110 from them), but they're quite good about service. Give respect, get respect. Go there understanding that they have brand new trucks under recall, or are extremely busy with anything, and expect to be serviced immediately, and of course they're going to look at you like you're an idiot.
I've been respectful and courteous both times I've been there, and have been treated very nicely. I called them a week ago and asked if they could direct me on how to get my hood straight (courtesy of an accident, I can't get the replacement hood lined up properly), and they told me to just bring it in whenever, they'd get it straight.

BTW, now that you mentioned the shifter.
What's a call the square plastic that holds the boot shifter console?
Mine is not holding the screw in one end cuz a piece of that plastic broke.
