I am looking for a bed cover. I have a roll-n-lok on my other truck, which I really like, but it will not work on the 08 with the tailgate step. It appears as if the Retrax will work as it does not lock to the tailgate, however I am a little worried about the polycarbonate material. Does anyone have experience with these tops? It seems to me the polycarbonate would get scratched pretty easily and look terrible.
If not this one any other suggestions for a rolling hard top type of bed cover?
I had one on my F150 super crew for 3 years and didn't have any problems with scratching. I live in the Chicagoland area and we get plenty of snow and ice and that did't cause any either. I have a F250 now and am planning on getting another for this truck.
Had a Retrax on my F150, loved the function but it warped in less than a year due to summer heat and had several humps in it that wouldn't go away. My next one will probably be a Roll Bak.
My retrax is 3yrs old. I had to drill some holes on the roller channel so I could lock the cover in different locations. Just treat cleaning the unit as you would the truck, Lexan scratches easily. Noise from the cover is annoying when I have the back slider open while driving down the highway. Make sure you purchase the tailgate sealer(weather stripping).
I have the Jack Rabbit by Pace Edwards and the reccomendation for that cover actually came from Retrax. I call and spoke to them about my uses and because they said the Lexan on the Retrax is so prone to fine scratches, and showing dust they reccomended the Jack Rabbit, they were honest and straight forward since my truck encounters a lot of mud, dirt and dust...as you may have seen, I'm glad they did, I am very happy with my Pace Edwards, it has a textured vinvl over aluminum and does not have to lock to the tail gate. I'm also sure the retrax is a good cover too.
I have the Pace Edwards Full Metal Jacket. Works great plus it's all powder coated metal. You can repaint it when it gets faded. Locks to the side rails every 12 inches. You can lock the top and still open the tail gate.

You shouldn't have had to do that as mine can lock in any position that I want it to along the track.

I have yet to notice any noise of mine in the cab when I'm blowing down the ole road. Which I have done more so then I used to since I've had all the work done on my truck.
7 months with one on my '07 dually. Works just fine, and it locks wherever I want it to. Especially good for towing with my fiver--I slide it out to the pin and lock it there--covers the gas tank and tool box that way. It does show dust.
Mine rattled quite a bit, you couldn't hear it in the cab really unless the rear slider was open...
I can't hear mine even with the rear slider open, but then again I've blasted my ears out with Def Leppard and Billy Squires songs too much though, I can't hear anything anymore.
