I am looking at getting a set of injecctors dont know a whole lot about them. what kind to get what size hp wise, price, brand, and how it will effect power and fuel econ. I know of course if i get bigger and better ones better hp but at what cost. i still want to drive it back and forth to work wich is about 50 miles one way. any advice. it would be appreciated.
Bigger injectors with the right PCM tune shouldn't affect your MPG very much. The problem comes from the new found power and your ability to NOT use it
but there are a few things you need before injectors. Maybe you already know all this stuff but incase you don't. you need an upgarded intake and exhuast, at the very least a pyrometer to measure exhaust gas temps, boost and trans temp are recommended too, you will also need a chip burned for the injectors you get to get the full potenial out of your new injectors.
it is very common for stock/stock rebuild auto's and stock style clutch (5 speed's) to fry shortly after upgraded injectors. so be prepared. for the auto's you can get a sonnax valve and spring kit (good) or a BTS valve body (best) to prolong your trannies life. a good torue converter is also recommended but it may survive the new injectors. If you have a 5 speed there are upgraded clutch availible also.
thanks for the info i have been seeing these DIY injectors posted here and there but didnt know anything about them. i know i am going to get a new down pipe here soon but i need to save up money for the rest.the chip burned for the injectors where would i get this item? from diy or someone else? this chip that is burned is it like a banks style or what and if you have it could you use a banks or similler? i appreciat all of the help
On these DIY injectors how dificult are they to put togather? I am fairly mechanicaly inclined, it just seemed like a lot of parts. i know it said it came with instructions and a cd with pics but how hard is it actually?? should i get the "Intensifier Pistons"and "parts pack"?
This is how I explained it in my writeup after I did mine.
If you can take a carburator completely apart and put it back together and have it run, you can do it. I don't mean take it apart, tell me what each part does, put it back together, tune it and make it run. CAN YOU TAKE IT APART AND PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AND HAVE IT RUN, period. Sure there are alot of parts in there, and some pretty small ones. But if you have a clean work area, and pay attention to detail, it will be no problem. But if you are one of those people that when someone tells you "put the rag over your index finger and wipe the edge of the rim" and you ball the rag up and wipe the rim with half the rag on the tire and half on the rim....this project is not for you. Did that make sense......I think I almost confused myself.
It was pretty easy when I did mine. I had rebuilt old detroit injectors before, and I can't really say one was harder than the other. Just be sure not to hurry and try to finish way past your bed time or you will put something in backwards that will shear off two pins...not that something like that would happen to me or anything.
