1996 F350 Shift Interlock problem
(Ford mechanic said it was the interlock.)
I still have the problem. HELP !!!
Thanks In Advance,

PINPOINT TEST A: BRAKE SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM DOES NOT RELEASE OR LOCK PROPERLY
A1 CHECK POWER SUPPLY TO BRAKE SHIFT LOCK ACTUATOR
Turn key to RUN.
Using a test lamp connected to a known good ground, check Circuit 296 (W/P) at Fuse 10 (10A) for F-Series except F-Super Duty or Circuit 298 (P/O) at Fuse 7 (15A) for F-Super Duty.
Did test lamp illuminate?
Yes=GO to A3 . No=GO to A2 .
A2 CHECK FUSE 18 (10A)/7 (15A) SUPPLY
Remove Fuse 18 (10A) for F-Series except F-Super Duty or Fuse 7 (15A) for F-Super Duty.
Using test lamp, check power supply to Fuse 10 (10A) for F-Series except F-Super Duty or Circuit 298 (P/O) at Fuse 7 (15A) for F-Super Duty.
Did test lamp illuminate?
Yes=GO to A3
No=SERVICE Circuit 296 (W/P) for F-Series except F-Super Duty or Circuit 298 (P/O) for F-Super Duty for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
A3 CHECK POWER SUPPLY AT BRAKE SHIFT LOCK ACTUATOR
Gain access to brake shift lock actuator. Refer to Transmission Shift Cable and Bracket in the Removal and Installation portion of this section.
Using test lamp, check power supply at brake shift lock actuator connector C236 Circuit 296 (W/P) for F-Series except F-Super Duty or Circuit 298 (P/O) for F-Super Duty.
Did test lamp illuminate?
Yes=GO to A4
No=SERVICE Circuit 296 (W/P) for F-Series except F-Super Duty or Circuit 298 (P/O) for F-Super Duty for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
A4 CHECK BRAKE ON/OFF (BOO) SWITCH POWER TO BRAKE SHIFT LOCK ACTUATOR
Press brake pedal and hold.
Using test lamp, check for voltage at Circuit 511 (LG) at brake shift lock actuator connector C236.
Did test lamp illuminate?
Yes=GO to A9
No=GO to A5 . LEAVE brake pedal pressed.
A5 CHECK POWER AT BRAKE ON/OFF (BOO) SWITCH
Using test lamp, check Circuit 511 (LG) for voltage.
Did test lamp illuminate?
Yes=SERVICE Circuit 511 (LG) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No=GO to A6 .
A6 CHECK FOR SUPPLY TO BRAKE ON/OFF (BOO) SWITCH
Using test lamp, check for voltage at Circuit 10 (LG/R) at stoplight switch connector C279.
Did test lamp illuminate?
Yes=REPLACE damaged brake ON/OFF stoplight switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No=GO to A7 .
A7 CHECK FUSE 13 (15A)/9 (15A) OUTPUT
Using test lamp, check output side of Fuse 13 Circuit 10 (LG/R) for voltage for F-Series except F-Super Duty or Fuse 9 Circuit 10 (LG/R) for F-Super Duty.
Did test lamp illuminate?
Yes=SERVICE Circuit 10 (LG/R) for F-Series except F-Super Duty or Fuse 9 Circuit 10 (LG/R) for F-Super Duty for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No=GO to A8 .
A8 CHECK CIRCUIT 10 (LG/R)
Remove Fuse 13 (15A) for F-Series except F-Super Duty or Fuse 9 (15A) for F-Super Duty.
Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 10 (LG/R) at Fuse 13 for F-Series except F-Super Duty or Circuit 10 (LG/R) at Fuse 9 for F-Super Duty. Measure resistance.
Is resistance 5 ohms or less?
Yes=SERVICE Circuit 10 (LG/R) or Circuit 383 (R/W) for F-Series except F-Super Duty for a short to ground. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No=REPLACE damaged Fuse 13 (15A). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
A9 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK)
Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 57 (BK). Measure resistance.
Is resistance 5 ohms or less?
Yes=REPLACE damaged brake shift lock actuator. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No=SERVICE Circuit 57 (BK) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
Thanks for the help, it was the brake switch and and not the shift lock solenoid (like the Ford Tech told me. I asked him first about the brake light switch and he told me no, it had to be the shift lock solenoid.) Wish I would have come here first! It would have saved me $45 .
Thanks Again,
