Simple job now an epic....help!!
I detached the shifter cable from the shift lever on the side of the tranny, ('92 XLT, E4OD), while replacing a part. I would have thought that I'd then be able to freely move the shift selecter inside the truck from Park all the way down to 1. I can freely move it between park and reverse but that's it. It won't go beyond reverse. Is something on the column blocking the shifter, or do I need to do something at the end of the cable where it connects to the rod? Pushing on the brake won't help either.

I take it that the key is on and you tried to pull the lever toward you as if you going to drive it. it has a safety indent so you can't slam from r-d and d-r accidently thus scewing up the tranny.just check it out simple little duhs stump the best of us. hope this helps.
