Well lets see, I have a 78' F-150 4x4 with a 400/C6, I pulled down my street today and after turning when I was down to about 25, I was checking if it would downshift fine and it did, shifted it back into drive and I parked it in the driveway. Later I went out to move it and it went into reverse fine, then I have to put it in gear, pull forward and open my gates to pull into the backyard. Well after putting it in Park again, it seemed hesitant to come out of park. It came out and went into Drive but when I tried to put it back in park the shifter just moved freely, you couldn't feel it go into any gears, I have to shut the truck off in drive and chock the wheels. It won't start now either due to the neutral safety switch...any suggestions on what I should do?
Shifter internally sounds like it is broke, have some one run thru the gears with the shifter and watch the side of the trans to be moving accordingly.
If it is not then it sounds broke, I think moving the trans plate all the way one way (cant remember) or the other will put it back in park and disengage the s/n sw.
To be able to at least start it, I am not telling you how to get it in gear to move it cause that a great way to get run over.
But the mention of using chalks AND a person on the brakes is a great start and thats all ya get from me. Do not rely on the park brake alone.
Well, turns out the linkage broke haha, got it fixed already, I need to look at things more in depth before posting... Thanks for the comments though everyone...
