i think i'll just sleep a little better knowing the cat is there. ya just never know, especially with commerical tags on mine for my business, if i get checked, by a roadside stop. which is highly unlikely but could happen. i then could get a huge fine. i don't thinkt he cat is that restrictive. i'll put it back in and see if it makes a big difference. on another note, i think the mpg has gone up since straight piping. normaly i'm around 200 miles on the trip, at half a tank. yesterday it was still at half tank and i was up around 240 something. and my driving is always the same kinds of roads and speeds.
so from what i can gather from all the posts it is pretty much personal preference on whether or not you delete the cat. and whether or not you are willing to possibly take a hit from inspections or voided warranty. is this correct? has anyone every actually done a performance evaluation and tracked thier MPG's before and after the cat has been deleted? with me driving across the country i think that i would be able to get an acurate conclusion of whether or not it does or does not improve economy. i just need a little help of where i could find one that will fit stock exhaust. if someone could send me a link i will buy one and leave the cat in on the trip across the country and then put the delete in when i come back.

all you do is go up to the search icon above the thread posts and type in what you are looking for. that is how i found this one. i just typed it "cat delete" and every thread that has to do with deleting the catalytic converter pops up.

Pure Diesel Power has one for stock; it is easy in easy out.
thanks a lot guys! i will get one and let you know the facts of what kind of mileage i get. i will do up a nice spreadsheet or something tracking my mileage and then we will have some concrete figures to work with
Who has paid a $10,000 fine? Please introduce me to him. I would also like to know who has had a warrenty claim denied because of a deleted CAT. I think you are more likely to win the lottery.
Delete the CAT and don't look back. The CAT is very restrictive

I have read through many of the threads on here regarding the Cat Delete. I have an 04 6.o with 72K on it. I recently noticed a rattling noise under slow accerlation. I crawled under and shook the Cat. I can heard the internal cage rolling around. Based on this I assume my Cat is broke. The dealer wants over $2200 for a new one and claims that mine is out of warranty. Can anyone clarify the exact warranty on Cats. I never trust the service writer. I am not prepared for spending that kind of money on a Exhaust part. I have a RBP Cat Back system on it and it cost half that amount.... arrrrwww!
As one entry stated, it comes down to personal oppinion. I used to have "No Front Licsence plate", Tinted windows, and no covers on the Off-Road headlights on the light bar on the front. All illegal things in CA. I have been pulled over for all 3 (Slow day on the beat I guess). On those 3 occasions I was only ticketed for those violations (Fix it tickets - $10). No speeding or anything like that at all. I like the way my truck looks and it definitly gets noticed (cops and all). I have corrected all the offensed but the tinted windows t thi point. I am in CA and would like to keep the Cat but the cost is a big issue. Anyone have a thought about the risk of running without it in CA (So Cal specifically)? I am not looking for another reason for a cop to ask me questions about stuff on the truck.
Thank in advance for new oppinions on this old topic.
The federal and state cat warranty is 50,000, Ca is supposedly starting smog checks next year for diesel vehicles, the fiine for no cat beside the cost of replacing it is $10,000 I believe. They may just fail you and give you time to replace it and then go back for a recheck. but knowing how hard up for cash california is who knows. As far as the person asking me if I know someone that has been fined, no but if you read my post it said a POSSIBLE $10,000 fine. I have a friend that straight piped his truck, took it in to the dealer and they wouldn't touch it and threatened to turn him into the epa if he didn't reinstall the cat. He moved to texas with his parents.
With Al Gore running his mouth about global warming and Barry in office I would not throw any of your exhaust system in the trash just in case the feds make Diesel emission inspection in all states. Those cats can be very expensive if you would have to replace one.

Actually the exhaust portion of my warranty was revoked because of no cat, but I didn't care about the exhaust, it was aftermarket anyway. I did keep the cat though, just in case.
