A Little better flow,
depending on the yr of your engine, a bit better or a LOT better turbo whine at idle,
the potential for a **** service writer to vid a warranty repair for who knows what reason ,
the potential for failing a drive by or static emissions test,
the potential for a $10,000 fine for removing federal emissions equipment,
MANY have done it, no one has proven to me that it improves performance that much,
maybe it does, but IMHO, not enough to justify it
IMHO a good turbo back with a hi flow muffler will do you more benefit
but good luck with it!
Yeah do that along with a muffler delete and your truck will sound amazing. Its quiet at idle and cruising around, but full throttle, people will be running in the opposite direction when they hear you coming. Its great.
Is it worth a possible $10,000 fine? And becareful of a turbo back exhaust an **** service writer could cause problems with that as well I went with a cat back, talked to my service writer he said no problem with cat back but if you change the down pipe ahead of the cat it is part of the federal emissions as it is part of the cat and they would void warranty and could cause problems with the SOCAL epa. or should I say SO(K)AL as in Kalifornia
I have never heard of a person getting fined for running without a cat, only shops for working on vehicles without them/removing them. If a cop wanted to write you up they would just get you for loud exhaust. IL just put a new law into effect that it is illegal to put on an aftermarket exhaust louder than the stock one. How they plan on enforcing that I don't know. Are they gonna drive around with a book full of dB readings for every vehicles stock exhaust? It's a bunch of crap I say.
in caifornia especially socal they do setup check points at times to stop vehicles to check for the proper emmision controls and to see if it has been bypassed. They do right citations on the spot, we are do for another one soon it has been about two years since the last one.
I had the turbo replaced at 10k miles. When I took it in for the repair I put the cat and muffler back. I had a mechanic at a local garage tell me it was good I put it back or ford wouldn't have fixed it for free. He said no cat or muffler could have knocked the turbo outl. However I know I'm not the only one who did this but I don't want to take any chances or have more problems.

Alaska has had that vehicle noise law for years. As a matter of fact if you are cited for a loud exhaust you have to take your car to a state/muni shop where the decibals are measured according to a specific procedure that is outlined in the law's verbiage. In regard to the cat removal issue: it is a federal law that prohibits removal or alteration of any emmission control device. I was busted for removing the cats off my 2003 Mustang. I was charged w/ a class B misdemenor and prosecuted by the state attorney general. They even came to my work and served me a search warrant to confiscate the car, no BS! Now you have heard of somebody busted for it.
If the Cat is left in on a 4" Turbo back exaust, would the EGT still be considerably reduced. Or should someone just get a cat back system if they wanted to leave the Cat in place?
The cat necks down to 3.5, SOO if you have a 4" exhaust, it goes from 3.5(or 4") depending on DP, to 4" pipe, back to 3.5 at the CAT and then back to 4"..
Unless you have an exhaust like mine that has a 4" Cat...Then it is a true 4" system...

I asked the same question last month.
Another question would a TB with cat flow more than a stock straight pipe?
What about EGT between the two?

What state are you in??? That seems a little extreme. I have an 04 Mustang that has a Bassani X-pipe and cat delete, although I bought the modular kit that I can put them back on if needed, but it has even passed state inspection without them. I just did a Turbo back on my 2003 6.0 and I really don't know what purpose the thing served anyway. I was really surprised to find that deleting the CAT really didn't make the truck much louder, but did make it breath better. It seems the Turbo muffles most of the exhaust sound. I have a stright through muffle, but probably could get away with no muffler at all without it being excessively loud.
