I use mine as a daily driver, however I work out of it. 26k miles in the last 6 months. I idle an awful lot, no issues. I haul a fair ammount of tools on a permanent basis, tow my 11k toy hauler no where near as often as I would like to. Some can be persnickity, however most are very dependable, the major difference between the 6.0 and the 7.3 is the 6.0 has a much better trans, but is more maintenance strict than the 7.3. I would venture to say that 90% of the people here with 6.0 issues are one extreme to the next as far as use goes. They do like a good workout (either towing heavy, or a heavy right foot) to keep everything cleaned out, although less and less issues have been surfacing since the major conversion over to ULSD. My vote is go for it, you will not be sorry.
Mine is a daily driver. I've had it for 3 months now and only have 2000 miles. Just too busy working to take it on any trips yet. I'm only getting about 12mpg but that doesn't bother me much because a lot of it is idling or short trips. I live 1 mile from work, and 2 miles from Walmart and the bar I go to. Every now and then I take her out and have a little fun though. My buddy was always giving me crap about babying it too much until the other night, we were sitting at a stoplight next to a Chebby and I powerbraked and got the back tires smokin. The guy in the chebby rolled down his window and said that is a bad@#$ truck. The light turned green and we rocketed out of there leaving him staring. Since then my buddy hasn't given me much crap
I live in the District and use mine as a daily driver as well. City driving most of the time, but it gets blown out about every other weekend. It cruises very nicely at high speeds for hours. I also idle a lot more than I should I guess. I work nights and after I take my son to school in the mornings I sometimes end up sleeping in the truck for an hour or so. When I was looking to buy a truck, I didn't know much about diesels and thought it wouldn't bother a diesel engine to idle it for long periods. (From watching the big trucks at stops) I've been advised by more experienced owners that I should obtain an idler to prevent wet stacking in the egr or turbo problems from idling for long periods.
I use mine as a daily driver just 8000 mi in 12 months, average round trip to work is about 6 mi. I try to get it out on the highway every to every other weekend though to "blow" it out, average 13 mpg daily 17 highway, the heater just wrms up as I pul into work. I do pull a 12 k tt about 3 times a year.
Hey smokeploe where in the central valley are you? ...I don't drive mine but once a week but its at least 30 miles but usually 150 miles round trip up to the ranch, which when its wet means a lot of 4wd...15K so far but I do take a 4week trip every summer pulling a 27'TT, so mine are usually hard miles....well hard for a gasser.
Hey SVT, I bought my 06 Lariat CC 4x4 to tow my 03 Cobra back and forth to the track and as a daily driver. Haven't done much towing but I managed to rack up 15K miles in the first year. No problems so far. Pretty easy to live with.
2005 F350 DRW CC LB Use it for 3 long trips a year hauling a 14,000 5ver. Rest of the time its a daily driver. Just about 35,000 miles 720 Hrs. Great ride for a truck, looks cool and goes like ABOH when pushed.Virtual trouble free since new.
I tow a 10,000 lb enclosed trailer to the races 6-8 time a year. Drive the truck when it's too cold or too wet to ride the motorcycle. Average 15,000 miles per year on truck.
Went from an 8.1 GMC to the 07 PSD ...
Annual maintenance costs:
Oil change and routine maintenance at 3K, fuel filter and air filter once a year.
8.1 - $40 x 5 times/year = $200 + $50 fuel/air filter = ~$250/year
6.0 - $70 x 3 times/year = $210 = $100 fuel/air filter = ~$310/year (estimated)
So, it's an extra $60-100 per year maintenance costs
Fuel costs:
8.1 - 15K miles / 12mpg avg = 1250 gallons of fuel @ $2.40/gallon = $3000
6.0 - 15K miles / 15mpg avg = 1000 gallons of fuel @ $2.70/gallon = $2700
So, for me, the operating costs of a PSD vs a big block gasser was a wash.
Initial cost was a serious concern, but I figure at the end of the PSD's life in my driveway, I will get a large portion of that back in resale value.

Cool. I have an 04 Cobra and plan to tow it to the track a few times per year. It sounds like these trucks are very reliable and will go at least 300k miles with regular maintenance.
ozx3+1, I hope you didn't ya da ya da past the best part? Or did you mention the 20' Carson Fun Runner? Just a reference to Seinfeld, hope everyone remembers the episode. BTW, NO FUN FOR YOU!!
My '06 is also a daily driver, 10 miles to work. Since I've had it it's been mostly cold weather and mixed driving has been averaging 14 t0 15 MPG. I have seen 17 MPG with more highway driving. Now that the weather is starting to warm up I should see an improvement in fuel consumption. I'm not complaining because whenever you can drive a vehicle like this and have as much enjoyment it's more than worth it. Go for it and enjoy!
Daily driver here. I put about 15,000 on her last year. I have towed once (7,000# boat) no problem at all. Lately I have been doing 50/50 highway/city, geting about 15.5-16mpg. Love the truck. Best vehicle i have ever owned, plan on keeping her 10+ years
Daily drivers, 2003 CC 4x4 lariat, 102,000 miles average 25000 miles a year, pull 10.000 boat very little, drive 50/50 Hwy,City, average 16 to 17 MPG (35 inch tires) 4" lift, after this mods. Stock MPG was 18 to 19 MPG.
Go for enjoy and have a blast.
All in all the maint is expensive(unless you do it yourself) and the fuel is high. but once you set your truck up to look and run the way you like it there is nothing better.(especially when you mash the pedal and leave some hot rodder in the dust) Cool costs money and it is worth every penny.
Lastly i commute 110 miles per day mix between highway and rural. i like the view I have in traffic. It has saved my but more than once.
