just curious as to what types of woofers people are using at the moment and how they have them set up. I am trying to figure out which speaker to go with that will me both clarity and power. I don't want to take up much space and was thinking of removing the side pannels and making a custom frame. Any suggestions?

The main speakers will probably be infinity, kicker, or polk. Unless somone can talk me into another comapany.

I have Boston Acoustics 6x9 pros in the rear with 5 1/2 pros with a seperate tweater up front in the doors. I have an Eclispe CD player and a 6 disc changer and the power is a 300 watt MTX amp. I listen to all types of music and this combo sounds great in my Bronco.

I am currently installing a new stereo in my 1995 XLT. I am using 2 Eclipse Aluminum 12s (cutting away the back map pockets and building out a slight custom enclosure) 4 MBQuart speakers with 2 tweeters. 2 PPI amps (for the subs) and 1 Alpine amp for the speakers. I am building a small false floor to enclose the amps. When it is all said and done, I hope to have a great stereo without much of a difference in appearance or functionality.

can you tell me more about your false floor idea?

I was thnking of installing my amps and maybe two woofers in the rear footwell. I guessed dimensions and threw a basic idea on autocad but didn't know the bronco footwell dimensions so I couldn't actually do any final designing.

Do you know the dimensions? I guessed 48" x 18" x 5" with enough room left for peoples feet. Can i go longer or wider?

Also, would two woofers firing directly at the ceiling be a bad thing?

I would stick with the Infinity components; they are great speakers. I recommend Phoenix Gold X-Max subs if you don't want to use up too much space. They are super clear, and don't require much airspace.

Hey guys, I just wanted to get in on this little chat because I've been trying to figure out just what exactly I'm going to do with my audio components. I have had my truck broken into twice, once they got everything the other time they got caught so I got it back. As for the footwell area thats not a bad idea I was just wondering what you are going to do about the step up. If I understand your post correctly you are going to place a box 4'x 18"x 5" in the area where the rear passengers feet go. If thats the case, do you intend for people to walk on the box? If its just for the amps do you intend to move the air through that space to cool the amps?
Kanch this idea for a false floor have you done this yet? Are you going to put it in the space below the rear seat? I've been thinking about this for a while and I have three concerns, the first is supporting the floor so I don't have to worry about the strength of that area, the second is interfering with the trucks flexibility, and the third is heat. Heat is really the main concern because I want that box to be externally sealed so that when its in place against the floor its water tight from the outside and that means I have to vent it to the interior. Any ideas or experience would be greatly appreciated.

I did plan on people walking on (over) the amps....was going to use a plexiglass top sheet (0.5" thick) and make the frame out of 1" particle board. I was going to separate each amp compartment with boards to reinforce it.

I figured the plexiglass could span a 15 inch section and still support 150-200 lbs easily. I may have to go a bit thicker on the plexiglass but it will work.

As for woofers, I don't think i am goint to install them in the floor anymore. I think it would be too hard to get the sound right without dirt and other stuff getting into them.

I was thinking of using Lightning Audio amps since you can get fans that bolt directly to them and don't take up much room. I was also thinking of using a few 90mm computer fans on either side of the compartment to create an air flow over the amps (just like in a computer).

As for the woofers, I am planning on using two 8" midbass free air speakers and two 12" enclosed woofers in the car. I am mounting them to either side of the vehicle in custom enclosures that will replace the existing side pannels.

I read a post in the audio conference about someone doing the subs facing each other in the side panels, and they could not get good sound quality. I think the guy determined that the speakers canceled each other out, or somethng like that. I am not certain, nor even close to expert on these things. A-ha! I found the topic. https://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/audio/454.html

i have 2 eclipse 15's with a 1200 watt amp memphis highs with a 400 watt amp running to them premier cd player and fiberglass reinforced box. i dont know much about mechanics itself but i do know alot about audio.:7 if you have any questions about what brands to get i can answer them, really i can probably answer anything. rockford fosgate is okay but they bust easy, alot of dealers call them "rockford fosbrake" no good sounding system is cheap. kicker is the best run for your money, cheap and is one of the top manufactures in the market. awesome speakers from the solobaric to the compvr's and even he comps. i run eclipses because they are clean and loud. the only company that can make 15's handle like 10's. just remember the amp box and wiring is everything. whatever you do get a good amp. next thing is make sure the box is tuned right, let the pros do it dont mess with it yourself, one mistake in demensions can cut your sound quality in half. i like ported boxes better than sealed, alot louder and just as clean. spend alot on the cables, i like monster cable, they can handle a large amount of power and do not overheat. just something to think about

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-May-02 AT 11:48 PM (EST)]I am running 2 7" Crystal CPe60 components in the door, (have to cut the original opening)with the tweeters mounted facing upward at a slight angle in the space next to the power lock/power window control and 2 7" Crystal CPe60 in the rear on custom plates that I made to fit the opening with the tweeters mounted on a plate that replaced the rear ashtrays since I do not smoke. I have 2 JL Audio 10W6 subs in a sealed box, facing the rear of my Bronco. I have an Orion XTR 400.4 driving the components and a 1993 Lanzar OptiDrive plus driving the subs. The amps are installed in a box that I built and mounted behind the rear seat in between the wheel wells. I am using 4 4" fans for cooling inside the box. I use all knukonceptz.com wiring and Bill has some pretty good products. I have a Sony C9100 head unit, with a Sony T68X changer and a Cadence CEQ600 EQ. The EQ and the changer are mounted facing up in a custom panel I made in the center console. The crossovers for the Components are also located in the console. I did have to give up use of the console for storage but the install came out nice. I am not much into booming bass and usually listen to Jazz, country and old rock music, so for me the system has excellent sound. Check out sounddomain.com for more info and help on your install. Go to the forum section and you will find a wealth of info on the bulletin boards there and a lot of great car audio folks......

I used to have a custom ported box with 2 Cerwin Vega 12" dual voice coil subwoofers with a PPI 2075 amp that was modified to run a (theoretical I was told) 300 watts. The box was placed behind the rear seat with the woofers facing the rear window.
This combination produced a very tight clear bass that sounded better than anyone elses system that compared theirs to mine and they usually spent 3 to 4 times as much.
I still have the box and I'll probably do a similar setup, same speakers bigger amp, in my 96 Bronco.

Anyone know if there is a CD/DVD player out there with a separate LCD monitor (I want to mount it on the headboard above the rear view mirror) that is made by Pioneer or Sony or someone else but especially not Audiovox?

Hey guys I just installed infinity kappa reference speakers in my Bronco and they sound great. I put 6.5" in the doors and 5X7 in the back with a pair of 10" reference series subs in a custom sealed enclosure in the back. I have 4 amps and have yet to find a location to mount them in that I'm happy with.

I have been thinking about the false floor idea but putting it in the cargo area.I ordered a soft top for my Bronco and I want to make it as theft proof as possible. If they want to steal my amps they will need a crowbar. The computer fan Idea is a good one I had ordered some fans from Northerntool.com and they may be a little large for this application.
