Hey submarineAZ check out crutchfield.com they usually have plenty of electronics like that. I know at best buy they have the LCD come out of the headunit. Its pretty slick but too expensive.
The only place I have found that I like the amplifiers is under the rear seat. I have 2 Alpine V12 amps under there and have never had a problem with overheating or anything and I can still remove the speaker box when I want. I raised the rear seat about 1 inch and everyhting has worked great now for almost a year. I have found that the component crossovers for the front doors work much better behind the rear panels, much less abuse back there.
Sorry for the delay in responding, but I was out in Colorado visting my brothers and I CHOSE to leave my laptop at home!
The install is going well (I have a friend who does this professionally helping me--he is doing most of the work and I am just his helper!)
We looked at putting the false floor in front of the rear seats, and then looked at going under the rear seats. Not enough room for my amps (and to keep them cool)
I am now going with a false floor in the cargo area (will lose about 5 inches)
This will be primarily 3/4" MDF, and strong enough to jump up and down on. It will hold my 3 PPI amps (2 PCX-280 for the subs, 1 PCX-440 for the 4 MBQuarts--which I think are the best out there), a 1 farad capacitor, and two addtional fans for cooling.
The Subs will be in the rear map pockets (cut out) and firing at a 45 degree angle up and at each other. This way the waves will not cancel, but instead work correctly.
I am also using quite a bit of sound-kiiling material behind the subs and the components to help reduce any buzzing or loss of sound quality.
With proper wire mesh covering and carpet, you will not see a thing, but it should rock as hard as anything out there!!
for the $$$, rockford fosgate is the way to go for subs and amps, get sony for a deck (best skip protection), and just find a deal on mids. Eclipse, cerwin-vega, infinity make decent mids. Peace.
Sony xplode deck, Sony xplode Amp, rockford fosgates front and rears, 12 inch Kicker in a box, way loud enough, nice and inexpensive, do a LCD drop down and a DVD player while you at it

Anything Sony is trash. They haven't made a quality car audio component in years, especially decks. Cough up the extra few bucks for a mid-level Alpine. It will be well worth it in the short term, and the long run. Pioneer headunits are OK as far as tuning, and sound, and you can get them with pretty little dolphins on the screen, but their just not as powerful, or as reliable as Alpine. If you have a little more $$$ step up to an Eclipse, or a lot more $$$, go all out and get a Denon. As for Rockford Fosgate, they have a nice line of amplifiers, but the subs are way over priced for what you get. I heard 2 15" Power Stage 2's ($750+ each) in a $500 custom images fiberglass box built for them run against 2 15" Kicker L7's on the same 2 amps, and the Kicker's walked em. Let's just say, it wasn't even close. The upper level Audiobahn subs are also very good. The number one ingredient for good sound is the head unit. After all, that's where all the sound comes from. The sound of the Alpine headunits will actually make you wonder if you even need an amp for the mids and highs (very powerfull). Plus they have fully adjustable subwoofer outputs seperate to give you more tuning choices. Very good deck for the money. The next most important for bass is the enclosure for the subs. You can put a $700 sub in a box it shouldn't be in, and a $50 Jenson sub in the correct enclosure will out perform it head to head. Make sure your custom enclosures have an airspace within the range given with the subs, or you won't get the sound your going for. Number three is the amplifier. The power of the amplifier as well as the sound/noise, and the frequencies that they reproduce is very important. You get what you pay for as far as amps go. They also depend on your music preference. The Rockford Fosgate Power series amplifiers for instance, are very powerful, sometimes even more powerful than they are rated, but they struggle severely as the frequency goes up. Only the deepest bass is reproduced at their maximum output. The V12 series from Alpine is more of an all around amplifier for various types of music. Then would come the subs. Power supply also plays a huge role (caps/wire/connectors/ect.) Also, don't short yourself when it comes to the mids, and highs. Infinity is a solid choice without killing the wallet in that department. The noise deadening material will also help the sound quite a bit. Good luck.

Oh, and don't pay retail for anything, unless you just like making other people rich. There is an almost 300% mark-up on car audio, and all of it can be had a lot cheaper if you look in the right places (internet, ect.).

My 2 cents,
There is only 2 names in speakers I would ever consider.
1. A/D/S THE best true to life, bullet proof sound.
2. then I would consider certian MB quartz.
If you have the chance just find them to listen to them, then if you can afford, you WILL buy
I even mounted 2 in my road case when I am on Tour, and everyone want's them.
I personally am in love with my system, and Im not through with it yet. I had an Aiwa deck that I bought when I didn't have that much money, compared to what I have now that thing is nothing! I have a touchscreen Panasonic H/U, Kicker components in the front, 2 12" Eclipse subs in a ported box, and a Kicker amp for the subs. The next steps are an Alpine 4 ch amp for the components mounted under a custom center console, Kicker 57.2 components for the rear, and an Eclipse EQ.
For money comparison, Kicker is incredible!! And the Eclipse subs are spectacular, for $100 a piece I couldn't find a better sub for the price!
I have 2-10" Polk with 4-5 1/4" infinity components. I'm using the Kenwood deck to run the components and a PPI amp to push the subs. They sound good. Make sure that you buy the most efficient subs that you can. Rockfords are usually poor at efficiency.
Just sold mine, but I had two Boston 12" pro series subs, sony amp, pioneer deck, and infinity mids and tweeters. The Boston's were great, the best sounding subs I have ever owned. I built a false floor to house the amp. I got pics if anybody wants to see them.
