teh sticker is missing, it;s a 81 with a holly 650 ( don;t know model) and a victor intake, everything easle is stock. it came from a van and i am running a duraspark... 3? lue grommet.
that i am not concerd about, i jsut wnat it to run like it did when i had in the vicky. seems sense the accitdent adn swap the engien has not preformed to preivous starteds. plugs and wires have helped this alot and i am sure the time will to becuase the distributor was turned when the raditor folded over the engine. oh and i am not concerd about any internal damage, already pulled the pan and check the mains and rods. all is good. i do plan to eventually sawp out in the fuel system, hadn;t thought of the preformer though, thanks. i was also going to try and find a 650 edelbrock, i hate holleys them seem to tempermental
Holleys aren't tempermental. When it seems they are, the problem is usually ignition related or there's dirt or water in the fuel. I've run Holley's for well over a year's time without touching them. I've even done this with a triple Holley 2 bbl setup. Run clean water free fuel and you'll have no problems. I run three fuel filters in my 89 Ranger between the tank and carb.
not to put you down, but why would i want to screw with 3 filters when i can put a carb on that will run just fine with one?? and where i am at, getting water free fuel is like trying to find a bum how willing to give you money. i prefer edles and that is what i am comfortable with, engine came with the holley.
You blame your carb troubles on the brand, Run the Edelbrock without a water separator and feed it fuel with water in the mix and you'll get the same results. I run three filters by choice. And by that choice, I have NO carb problems. Do what you want, but don't sit there and put down a carb that you have no understanding on how it works and then blame it's problems on the carb when it's caused by other factors. I'll keep using cast-off, nearly new Holleys that are made available by those who haven't a clue as to why the carb doesn't work when it goes bad due to dirty and/or water laden fuel or the ignition won't hold a tune. Last one I bought was abandoned by one such owner. When I pulled it apart, the primary fuel filter was plugged solid with red mud. The secondary side was spotless, that told me two things about the previous owner---- He never bothered to run a filter between the tank and carb and never learned to tune the carb so that the secondaries opened (that was why the secondary filter was clean, no fuel, other than the initial amount needed to fill the bowl passed thru it) I ended up with a nearly new Holley 750 for the purchase price of $100 and a quick kit.
dude, i will gladly sell you this carb when i get a edelbrock. i am not alone, ever car builder i have grown up with prefers edelbrock. don;t talk to me about tuning, i know what i am doing. if anything put itdown to brand choice, you choose holley i choose edelbrock. case closed, i am not going to get into a pissing match with you over a carb, if i choose to use a different brand then you FINE, if i make that choice based on my past experince FINE. teh only edelbrock i have never like is the flat slide they made for harleys, simpley becuase for everyday use on the road they are not capable to maintain a proper consant venturie, racing, they can kick ***. now if you want to talk about buyiung "cast offs" then fine, i havea 650 and 750 holley i would be happy to part with BECUASE I SO CHOOSE.
also i don;t want you to think i don;t runa inline filter, due to your coments i sense you think i a moron, i do run one, GOOD in line filter and rinse roughly every oil change. on the 30+ year old tank you would be a moron not to, i jsut don;t see the need for A) three filters and B) that much fuel system restricion.
side note: i did my timing to 12 btc and the engien ran liek hell, think my dampener as slipped, will try to time it when i do the valve cover gaskets, thaks for your help on that guys.

There's no restriction with three filters. The 30 gal/hr Purolator electric keeps three carbs full on full power runs for several minutes. The first catches most of the crap from the tank, the second is a combo water separator/fuel filter like you'd find on boats. I used this due to the factory tank leaking at the large O ring that seals the intank pump. The front of the bed drains directly onto this and apparently after I pulled the intank pump to bypass it, the O ring didn't seal. I kept getting loads of water in the carb afterward, the water separator was an easier solution to the problem of pulling the tank again. The third filter is another inline common type filter, I've yet to have had to clean or replace it, so it's probably not needed, but it hurts nothing so it'll stay where it's at.
