An update. I sprayed my lock assembly with carb cleaner and it has started working correctly. I guess it was the mosisture in my area (NE). Well about a week now. still ok.
tks to all,

On my 2002, I traced the problem to a sticky Driver's side door ajar switch. The door has to be basically disassembled to replace it (inside panel off, door latch pushrods, etc. removed, latch entirely removed, etc. The problem is fixed... the old switch has a little actuator on the end that gets "sticky"... wierd design for that switch.
my 02 ford explorer limited had the same problem the Interior lights stay on until battery saver shuts them off and when i press the defogger on the ac control the glass door will open i sprayed 10w 40 no luck and yesterday i discover that every time i open the driver side door the puddle light was brighter so i remove the rubber thing where the wires go to the door and i found one of the ground wires disconnected so i patch them back together and now is working so i hope this helps some one. now if i can only fix my other problem my ac Selector not working air is blowing only out of the floor or defrost.
Finally found the problem ! I replaced the door lock actuater with no change. I took the rubber boot away from both the door and the frame on the driver's side. I have taken the boot loose one side at a time but this time I viewed each wire looking for cuts or scrapes. In the middle of the boot; a black wire was found not connected to anything but about 1/2 inch of bare wire showing. I searched from the door frame side and thumbing through the wire bundle, I found the other half of the wire. This end was also showing about a half inch of copper wire. I connected the two with a couple inches spare wire and everything seems to be working again ! Puddle lamps, Interior light, ect.
Darn if it doesn't seem fishy to me though. Allmost as if the wires had been cut in a diffucult place to find, then the ends loosley twisted back together for a temporary connection. No other wires have a mark on them.
Thanks to all that offered help with this !
