Picking up my first 250 diesel in the morning. I am going to put the Kenwood in the dash and was wondering if anyone knows how I can maintain use of the steering wheel controls? I do not want to make them useless.
A manufacturer called Peripheral makes interfaces that allow you use the OEM steering wheel controls with an aftermarket headunit. However the headunit has to be designed to interface with the steering wheel controls interface. Most headunits are not set up for this. You will have to check with yours to see if it is.
PAC SWI-JACK (or PAC SWI-ALP which is the old part name) I have one in my truck working with my Kenwood DDX-6019. Double check and make sure it works with whatever Kenwood stereo you are getting though.
The Part Your Looking for is a Peripheral #PESWIAKJC
Works great... 3 wire hook up.. Works with Alpine, Kenwood, Jvc and Clarion Radios
all you have to do is hook up a Acc wire, a Ground, and tap the white wire into your factory wire harness... i believe its Pin 18... Light blue wire with red stripe
You guys are the best. I've been looking around for another OEM cd player for my 05 (mine stopped working). I thought I would lose the steering wheel controls if I upgraded. I going to start looking for a radio / cd / xm unit this week. Any suggestions for a local installer in the dc area?
If you are just installing a regular CD player I would suggest doing it yourself. There are plenty of us around here that can help you figure out what you need to make the install super easy. Just figure out what model you want and get us the part number and I'm sure we can help.
You shouldnt have to buy anything but just a stop at your local audio shop should be able to help you a pretty good bit. That could give yah a good sense of direction.
