The C6 is a big heavy cast iron unit that's dang near bullet proof. Lots of racers use them so there are plenty of parts and a good aftermarket for them. However, they're made for big blocks and FE's not small blocks (351w on down).
I think you're right, at least in some applications. I just think of the 351w as the top end of the small block v8 spectrum, hence its mention.
Some guys will argue differently, it doesn't really matter to me, but I tend to consider the 351w the top of the small block, and the 351c the bottom of the big block, so when I think small block that's what I think of and that's why I mentioned it.
