Today out of the blue my speedometer while I was going 30 mph at the time went all the way over to the right side over 80 mph then it went very fast back down to under zero then back and forth like that 3 or 4 times then it stoped.I pulled over shut the truck off then back on and it did the same thing again its a speedometer gone wild.Anyway the trucks a 95 f 250 hd 4x4 351w auto tranny.what do you think is making my speedometer go so crazy like this and whats the fix for it?thanks any info will help
I know its not the battery its new and the alternator is new too...Im going to go out a test it again.I was thinking if the tranny still shifts ok but the speedometer does this wouldnt you say the speedometer would be broken?or some kind of sensor?
strange i just drove it for 10 min and it didnt do anything...im wondering it it may have to do with the fact i have a new 300 watt amp for my stereo for my door speakers.i have 2 amps total off 600 watts.im wondering if i need a bigger alternator is if its the sensor.hmmm
and no my gauges dont sweep and settle down when i start the truck.
If the tranny is shifting erratically, it could be the speed sensor that is usually mounted in the rearend.
I see a wire on the top of my rear alxe would this be where the speed snensor is?if so how do i go about taking it out and where can i buy a new one?only the dealer im guessing .And about how much money are they?i was told its bad from the guy at the shop here in town.thanks
I have never taken one out, but I assume it unscrews out of the housing. See if it has metal shavings on the end. Also make sure the wire is in good shape.
