OK, here is the problem. My rear A/C is not blowing as cold as it used to be. I have changed the expansion valve in the rear as well as the blend door on the rear unit. Still no help. Any Ideas? The Freon level is correct by the way, I even put dye in the system to check for leaks after the expansion valve was replaced just to be safe. No Leaks. Also, everytime I start the truck after it has been sitting for a few hours and I turn the A/C on there is a loud grinding sound when the compressor clutch engages. The clutch has been replaced and it still does it. It visibly pulls down the RPM's excessivly and you can feel it inside and outside the truck. After the compressor runs for a few seconds and we cycle the compressors, nothing. Even after shutting off the truck and turning it right back on, still nothing. It only happens when the truck has sat for a few hours. It seems like it happens when the high and low pressures equalize it happens.
Sounds liek you need a new compressor, not just the clutch! It sounds like it doesnt want to turn over and you are probably putting some serious strain on that pump forcing it to turn. Hopefully it doesnt come apart and shoot metal throughout the system! Id stop using it and get it evaluated by a professional. I wish i could give you better advice but ive never really done much with an A/C system.
I was thinkink that it might be the compressor but I wasn't for sure. Since I have posted the problem, I have been paying attention and the intermittent noise is just that, intermittent. It really doesn't matter if the truck is cold or warm, or if the A/C pressure is eqaulized. What would an "about to go out" compressor do to the rear A/C if the front is ice cold?
I know theres a lil filter that kinda looks like a fuel sock, maybe you have already sent parts into it and its clogging? Again im just taking wild guesses. You really need to have that system pulled apart by a A/C professional to check for damage and see what needs to be replaced/repaired.
What are the high side / low side pressures on the compressor. I would hope you have 230-250 on the high side and 28-34 or so on the low side with the clutch engaged and operating. Let me know what your pressures are and we can go from there. Jim

Will do but it will be this weekend before I can check it. I hope to be able to check it when it makes the noise but since it is always when the compressor engages I don't know what kind of reading I will get. We'll see I guess.
Years ago I read the Ford service manaul about a the noise the compressor sometimes makes. Seems it is normal and is a purging type of action. Ford refers to as CASS. Completely normal if not totally irritating.
As to why your rear AC won't blow cold...I would suspect a blend door first but you already replaced it. Are you sure, however, that it is working... Nah...I'm sure you're sure. Since the compressor runs both AC units I wouldn't susepct anything wrong with the compressor. I'm lost...but I'm also tired............

You and mee both, we already put on 10,233 miles this year and didn't even drive for 20 days. As for the noise, this week has been ths fist time I have ever heard it, and for as much as I drive I listen to everything she tells me.
The blend door works, and I replaced the actuator motor. What more could I check on it?
