It is amazing how things have changed. I'm 18 and would rather live in an earlier era. Just seems like everything was more down to earth and less out of control like it is today. JMO.

1967.

Kingsport, Tennessee.
Ross N. Robinson Junior High School

History class. We were discussing WWII.
I asked and got permission to bring in my Dad's Arisaka 7.7mm rifle that he 'liberated'.
I walked to/from school, everyday.
I had two stripper clips of ammo in my pocket, and the rifle across my right shoulder as I walked to school.

No problem, no incident. Nothing.
We discussed the rifle and the American M1 Garand in class, with no issues whatsoever.

Were the police called????? Heck NO!!!!!!!!!

Today. . . . there would be such a lockdown, the kids wouldn't be released to their parents until all had been interogated for at least two days!!!

We have decommisioned M-1s in JROTC for our Armed Drill Team. Mind you, these things have plastic stocks, removed firing pins, steel rod welded into the barrel, etc. We were going to a drill competition and stopped at McDonalds to grab some food. Couple of veterans were sitting inside, saw our T shirts and asked us what we did, etc. We had some extra time, so we got our rifles out and did a part of our routine for them.

Some soccer mom apparently thought our elaborate spinning and tossing constituted an attack on McDonalds, about 10 minutes later the SWAT team was there...they got out of their truck and just kinda looked at us, then took all their crap off, came over and talked to us, started comparing guns, etc. Nice guys.

That's why I enjoy living somewhat away from the city. As much different as it is in 2007 compared to 1957, I'd rather be a child or raise a child in this day and age. Much more experience for them, a redefined world. I want them to see that this country isn't immune, and it's my kids' duty to make sure it stays our country and not some territory owned by certain Middle Eastern countries. I want them to have access to modern technology with all of the improvements. With good comes bad, but with bad comes good.

Yeah, that about hit the nail on the head. I do agree with RangerPilot though. I am happy with 2007, but what the world really needs is to settle down a little and quit
being a bunch of pu**ies about every little thing. I think if people just opened their eyes a little more they would realize that the whole world hasnt gone to Hell yet. Wow, this could almost revert back to my PC thread a couple weeks ago..hahaha
Thanks for the post Jake!

I am not happy with 2007. I am 59 years old, and see changes in our Country. There is so much more government control on what we do, and even what we eat. I do not need laws to protect myself from everything on Earth.

Much as I agree with some of this, there were some other parts.
(I'm a 46 model, and I remember 57 reasonably well - no Alz - yet )

I remember the neighbor on one side who used to whup his young son pretty much all the time -- there wasn't really anyone to mention this to. My mother told me that the boy grew up with the same talent for his kids. (I'm not anti spank -- my folks did and we did -- but there has to be love there as well.

The neighbor on the other side seemed pretty good -- but, my mother told me that he used to smack his wife from time to time -- again, nobody who really wanted to know about it.

And if you were a female who fell victim to preggers -- life was not good. Choices were basically teenage marriage, disappear till you could pop the kid for adoption, or find a back alley butcher. And, BTW -- it was your fault.
( I'm not female -- but, I know how it was)

57 was also 7 years before blacks started raising enough hell to get some measure of a fair shake. (I'm also not black)

As for guns - I agree -- but, drive bys weren't Saturday night entertainment.

My point is that much was good -- but much was bad as is always the case.
I think that there's a lot that's wrong now. It's hard to say why. I do believe that we can pay attention to local issues and change what we can. It's unfortunate, but we must spend some time away from the garage

just my thoughts
