I just went through this whole scenerio... Truck would sometimes pull to the right, sometimes not. Had slight clunk every now and then driving in and out of steep approaches. Turned out the lower ball joints were going bad. I ended up having Firestone in town here do it, as I did not have the time. (I normally do all my own work on my baby, but I was leaving on a trip and didn't have the time). Anyway, the bill all said and done was $714 dollars and some cents. I had them replace the uppers too since it was apart. Prices for reference were:
Lower joints: 99.95
Uppers: 56.something (can't remember exactly)
Labor: 300.00 (thought this was reasonable)
Front end alignment: 49.95
Tax and supplies made up the rest.
Truck drives like brand new now. (Now I just need to get rid of the slight shimmy when braking, rotors are getting cut today) Only thing I noticed is that the grease zerk on the upper joint rubs against the u-joint-ROLLERSTUD, you said you put a plug in yours, where did you find that or what did you use?

Do you have a 90 degree zerk fitting (I am betting so) you'll need to remove it, take it apart and then reinstall the smaller straight zerk back in place. The 90 will clear on the pass side, but not on the drivers side.
I have noticed a lot of guys on here running back and forth trying to find all the parts they need. Powerstrokeshop sells all this stuff in one kit for one price. They also have a kit to do hubs and ball joints all at once. You get new seals, Orings, hubs, ball joints, studs, nuts ALL OF IT in one box and a pretty good price.
1) I got all my stuff at Powerstrokeshop.com and agree the price was pretty good.
2) I'm not experiencing the "rub" problem with the zert on the upper joint.
Thanks WuShock, I will do that-mine actually rubs on the passenger side, but not on the drivers side, but I am going to do them both like that anyway-thanks
