I live in Arizona and with temperatures already in the 90's I am trying to determine what is causing as AC Issue that just showed up our of the blue. I drive a 1997 5.4L Expedition 4X4 Eddie Bauer edition with 125,000 miles still going strong. MY AC works very well when idling or when traveling at a constent speed. When ever I excelerate however the air flow is diverted to the defrost vents by the wind shield and it blows hot air until I get to a constant speed again. Then the airflow diverts back to the front panel and is as cold as when it changed direction.
Any further needed information can & will be posted and any assistance is grealty apprecieated.
I drive a 1997 5.4L Ford Expedition 4X4 Eddie Bauer edition SUV with 125,000 miles. My SUV runs great and then reciently the AC started to have issues. My AC cranks out cold air when I am ideling and running at a constant speed; however when ever I accelerate the airflow is diverted from the from front panel to the defrost vents located by the windshild and the air is hot. When I reach a constant speed the airflow is diverted back to the panel and is always very cold,
I suspect a temperature controler but any educated insite would be greatly appreciated. It a good truck with many more mile to go.
There is a vacuum check valve on the passenger side up by the firewall. It is blue on one end a white on the other. That check valve goes bad and causes the complaint you are having with the air going to defrost vents on accel.
Could the check valve you mentioned just be another color. I think my 1997 had a different color Blue. I have a picture I can email you if you send me a message with your email address to william.erwin@***.net It is taken just behind the battery on the passenger side in the area you discribed.
