Hi folks. This is my very first diesel (if you don't count my mom's Olds Cutlass Diesel from the mid-80's... we certainly don't.. LOL!). I started looking at trucks when we started going further and further to ride our street bikes (the track or different locations), then started looking at 4x4 trucks when I was realized how much fun it was to surf sand (Glamis, DUmont) and bought some quads. My '04 Silverado SS just wasn't going to cut it out there (although it didn't do too bad, being AWD and having a nice 6.0 liter gas engine). My first "real" truck was a '93 F350 4x4 Crew Cab, with the 460 gas engine and a 5-speed manual. Great truck--but a serious gas hog. I then moved up to a V10-powered F250 Crew Cab 4x4, but I didn't see much improvement in the MPG area, and I was getting diesel-envy--all my firends were towing serious trailers or 5th wheels seemingl effortlessly with their Powerstrokes, Cummins, and Duramax'. Sucked big time. Right before Christmas, I started to look seriously at replacing my F250 with a Powerstroke. Initially, I was looking fro a 7.3 Crew Cab 4x4... But then I ran accross my '03 with an extended cab and a 6.0. Sure, there was some trepidation, but the mileage was crazy-low (at 41k). And the price was right. And it was super-clean. And I jumped on it! LOL!! So I'm doing some research and plan to address certain things (studs, EGR, etc.). This truck is awesome. It accelerates ferociously, but smoothly. It makes the perfect cackle at idle, and the turbo-whine is intoxicating. And all the while returning between 15 and 20 MPG!!!! Holy smokes. My SS, on a good day, would return about 12 MPG with mixed driving, 14MPG straight highway, and 10 MPG towing--but it wold struggle a bit with a heavily-loaded 16 ft flatbed (a Kawasaki Teryx and four quads + gear). My V10 did 10 MPG, and a bit less towing the same trailer, and although it was better than the SS while towing, it was not much better. I can't believe I can get this type of mileage with my PSD and have much greater towing capability. Okay, I'll stop preaching to the choir! Thanks for the welcome!
