definitely try the Meguiars Scratch X, if that doesnt take the marks out, then you need to either borrow a buffer or buy one (I got a nice one from autogeek-Cyclo=used this at work, great buffer) and start buffing with a medium compount...if that doesnt work, try a hard compound, then medium; 2 step it.....if THAT doesnt work, wet sand, but i dont recommend you doing that unless if you are experienced. Of course, after compounding, you always should wax. GL
The scratches that your referring to sound like the same one that I had. They weren't in the paint but in the clear coat. With the sracthes ou and the clearcoat thinner or gone, now what do you do?
HEY MUZZY - you sound like a bowhunter to me. I have the same deal, I run down some pretty rough stuff and scratch the **** out of my baby. I think all the scratches are in the clear coat. I have never used a buffer with compound or anything and I'm a bit nervous. Is it easy, do you recommend buying one or what. Can you give me some pointers, please?
Mine has them too. I have a black truck so when I drive down old dirt roads it just plain sucks. I think the best thing to do is take it to a professional detailer once a year and they can buff everything out. Cost is like $150 for a full detail.
I tried some meguiars scratchX yesterday. It worked pretty good on the light scratches but the deeper ones it wasn't so good. Has anyone done any buffing at home? Is it difficult? Is there a risk of screwing it up? How much does a buffer go for?
Yes I have done some buffing, if you have never done it before go slow. Stay away from the edges you will burn thru the clear quickly there. You can burn the clear on flat surface too if you leave the buffer on 1 spot too long. It is also common to leave swirl marks after you have buffed, if not polished when done. Good luck!!
