A 1 wire alternator requires a special regulator. You can search around to see if you can find a kit to convert a later model Ford or GM alternator to 1 wire, or do what most people do and buy the whole alternator already converted from one of the many brands who make 1 wire alternators.

If you check the vendors on top of the page, I am sure one of them sells a one wire to fit your engine.

i bought a 2 wire years ago when i upgraded the old one on my jeep.went down to napa and got what they called a self exciter regulater ,took it home pulled the old one out and installed new one and that was 5 years ago. pretty easy to do and the self exciter reg's are pretty cheap like around $5-7.with these units you just need to tap the throttle once to get it started and your good to go
