Ok, I've come to a point to make a choice. The fire truck (it's in my gallery). A lot of you already know about this truck. My question for you all is, should I go 12 volt. The original wiring is falling apart in places, and some of the switches are dead. I think I want to go 12 volt, but I am not sure yet. I know for reliabilities sake, I would be better off going 12 V. I do have a catalog of emergency vehicle stuff too, and I think it wouls be cool to put strobes in the lanterns on the rear hand rails. I know the value would be more if it's concours original, but I don't anticipate selling it any time soon. Convince me guys, either way.
I would go 12v and if you wire it correctly then with a few changes you could go back to 6v. I doubt it being 12v would hurt resale as I would buy a 12v truck before a 6v one.
I guess the exact of original value would probably only matter in an auction setting like Barret Jackson, or something like that. I think it would be better 12V.
If it was your daily driver I would say yes but I can only imagine that you keep her for more of a history piece. And like my '53 Desoto I want people to look at her and think that's they way they used to be ...
I'd go ahead and change it ove to 12v. For what you plan on using the truck for I think you'd be better off having a 12v system. That way yuou could add extra lights, etc.
I think you're all right. I don't plan on selling it any time soon. I do plan on using it, and driving it often. I do plan on relaying it back across over to Iowa in the future. I think I'm convinced. 12 volts it is.
