Hello fellow FTE's!!
Just a quick question regarding airbags...
Just purchased a '96 Bronco XLT that has a drivers side air bag and I was wondering if it can be temporarily disabled. Bad idea?! I have some concerns that if it's too sensitive, it could release on an off-road adventure. (I've heard it costs some serious scratch to get it replaced once it opens).
If anyone knows...please let me know. I really don't have any experience with airbags. Thanks---GB
Well i do know there is a way to disable them, im just not sure on how, which i know does no help to you. I have however noticed that there is a wire fitting on the back of the sensor that just plugs in to it. I belive i have found that there are 3 sensors on the truck; 1 in each frame rail and 1 up top behind the middle of the grill. Thats a lot to unplug cause its hard to get to um if thats the solution. Also i have heard that you can simply unplug the airbad its self by taking apart the steering wheel and unpluging the bad its self.(kinda weary bout that one, but anything you do to tamper with the airbag is gonna be dangerous) The only problem i have with this is when i go to plug it back in, whats the computer gonna think when it suddenly has the sensor or airbag back in to the system. And no doubt that once you do disable it, the airbag light on the instrument panel will fire, maby even the check engine light. Hope this helps. my bronco is a 95, 351 if ya need that for comparison.

I know of quite a few newer trucks used as ranch trucks and the owners beat the hell out of them off road. I have never once heard of an air bag going off because of this. I don't think you'll have any problems if you just leave it.
Hey...
Thanks again for the feedback. I definitely don't plan on introducing my front end to any stone walls or trees! But if I do, its probably best to have the airbag intact. Thanks again---GB
