Hi everybody,
Its real nice to see a forum like this dedicated to the ole diesels, I'm looking at a '86 4x4 extended cab, with a 6.9 manual trans, got around 135k miles on her, its been sittin 2 years. Owner says she was leaking a little fuel on injector pump, i was wondering (since i'm gonna do this truck right) what have you all had the best luck when it comes to IP's New or rebuilt? going to eventually have a banks sidewinder on top so possibly new injectors also.

Any help is appreciated. thanks guys

Welcome to the site zrs90sc- this place will eventually have answers to ANYthing you need to know about these trucks- It's a been there done that group of folks. IP's new are a good luck finding item, lots of opinions about rebuild shops, find one local is your best bet if they dont try to gouge you on price, stick with them, local knowlegdable people are invaluable, (almost as good as this site), most dealerships are brain dead if its not a computerized powerstroke, so find a good diesel shop. 135K is just about broke in IMO. Welcome again!

thanks guys, good info, whats a good baseline price for a rebuild of the original? and since a turbo is in my future, would it be a better investment to find a 94 turbo IP?

zrs90sc,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

I bought a reman 7.3 turbo IP at the local Ford dealer for 435 dollars to put on my 6.9 turbo engine.
It will probably put out a little to much black smoke at heavy throttle till you install the turbo though, just have to lighten up on the go pedal to correct it.

I just installed a set of Stage 1 injectors from www.DPS-Performance.com and am very happy with them. They also do IP's for comprable prices.

Come back often, someone here has had any problem you can possibly have at one time or another and knows how to fix it right.

wow, dps looks to have some great prices, assuming i dont have to drop a ton of money into the motor just to get it running right, i'm looking at using the ATS turbo setup, DPS turbo IP and stage 1 injectors. Have many people used this setup? Mostly this truck will be towing a 24' gooseneck hog trailer at an average of 14k so i'm gonna need a lil more power lol

I just did a complete rebuild on my motor last summer, I put about 4500 in it and did all the work myself other than the machine work.

It has a little more power, but is modified internally.
