im puttin the edelbrock 4bbl on my 85 w/ 302 and AOD...and i bought Lokar srk4000(throttle cable bracket w/ springs), KD2AODHT (kickdown kit) and TC1000HT (throttle cable)...this kickdown kit looks like a whole cable...how the hell am i supposed to hook this up...the linkage from my tranny is a bent steel bar w. a hole in it and runs from the carb area to somewhere below on the transmission...what do i need this cable for? and uh...how do i hook up this cable bracket? anybody done this swap before?
what i have may do fine...im wondering if the previous owner didn't rig up something....what i have is a steel bar bout 3/8 inch thick kinda champagne colored that hooks up on the tranny, bends upward at the firewall, and bends to point at the nose of the truck...it was zip tied to the old carb before i took it off...has a hole at the end (where the zip tie was)...its just that i don't have a cable, i have a bar. am i supposed to have a cable? will the cable i got from lokar replace this bar? pretty sure i have aod....the tranny pan underneath says Ford Automatic Overdrive...

Due to my 460 configuration, the stock kickdown bar would not fit. I had to use the LoKar. It works just fine. Took me a while to figure it out, but it works just fine.
I'm in the process of doing the same swap on a 1986 351W. I've pretty much decided on an Edelbrock 14054 carb/manual choke/non-EGR. I am having some difficulty deciding on which intake to purchase, a 2181 or a 3783 Edelbrock. The 2181 description states it is for the 351W up to 1972 and the 3783 for the 351W is for 77 to 86 with EGR. I'm eliminating the EGR and wondering if the 2181 should be used in my swap. I believe the bolt pattern is the same on both intakes with the only difference being the 2181 does not accomadate an EGR setup. I know I will have to use the LOKAR setup also, and my tranny does have the metal rod kickdown bar so I'm interested in this rod versus wire change for the kickdown? If anyone has done this swap it would be nice to have some specifics/details on what was done to install and make the change.
So, if anyone has done the intake swap, should I use the 2181 or the 3783?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I apoligize if these questions have been asked and answered in the past as I'm sure they probably have. I did a search and could not find anything specific to my questions.
I am doing the exact swap on my '85 F-150 with 302. I am going from a Motorcraft 2150 to a Holley 4-barrel 470cfm Truck Avenger. The Holley kickdown linkage WILL NOT WORK with AOD. You have to buy the Lokar cable kit, and YES, it replaces that metal bar that went from the tranny to the carburetor.
I started hooking the Lokar TV cable up, but then decided to have my transmission mechanic do it for me. I just had my AOD re-built last summer, and he told me that it was EXTREMELY important that the AOD is hooked up perfect, or else you can toast an AOD in about a mile. That TV cable directly controls the pressure inside the tranny, and that pressure MUST be checked with tools and pressure gauges that I simply do not have.
Something of this magnitude is just out of my league, so I thought it best if I let a professional handle it. I don't think I could handle burning up a new $1000 tranny. I should have my truck back by next week and I will let you know how it turns out. Good luck with your project!
Thank's for the reply. I haven't gotten into the installation at this point in time but perhaps I should have a tranny person do the work also. I'm pretty good with older trannies but the AOD is a little out of my league. And you're right, who wants to cook a tranny just to save a few bucks.

Lariat is right, you would be better off using a qualified technician to do the installation for you. The LoKar I installed was on a C6, which is not nearly the same as an AOD.
