hey guys, just wonder what u all think
i have a 95 7.3psd 4x4 sc long bed with 3.55 gear and its auto, my buddy up the road has a 93 dodge 3500 4x4 auto extended cab dually with the 12v cummins. he hates powerstrokes with a passion, he wants to have a pull off, think i should go for it? i really love my truck and i know it will pull anything, but ive heard stories about these cummins.... what do u guys think?
tug of wars are usually more about weight/traction. and the cummins has great power off idle. I think the cummins might win but your buddy will continue to run his mouth no matter what. hook em, up and see what happens
since his is a dually, it will win. Extra weight, extra contact patch on the road. The only hope that you have is to hope that his truck has knocked the rust off of itself going down the highway to lighten it to your weight. Seriously though, you dont stand a chance, I would bet he has 4:10 ratio, power right off of idle, and more weight. What you need to do, is get similar trailers, and pull em in a sorta drag race. You will blow his doors off from about 10 mph on.....
If you can do this in a field you will win!!! 6x6 has not traction on grass. Beside it is much nicer to your trucks. I recommend a 30,000 lb strap.... you can ask me how I know this or just take my word on it.

The straps make a definite and identifiable impression in the back of your truck if they snap when you're pulling on them. Go as heavy as you can afford.
I have been checking the dodge sites. They have a lot of sneaky tactics....
Loading sand bags in the cab, flipping the trailer hitch over to give them height over another truck. The idea being to have the other guys pull theirs down, while they are lifting up...
Dropping tire pressure to 10 or 20 pounds....
Most of them say that a dually usually loses, and an auto has a slight advantage. Either way these are my thoughts, I have never pulled before...
1 - weigh the trucks and make them the same weight before.
2 - strap NOT chain.
3 - ball heights the same.
4 - traction wins.
That sounds like fun but I would go with the duplicate trailer method if possible, or pull the same trailer up a long hill starting at the same place and same speed. Time to the top or other finish line. Don't hook a strap to a trailer ball and pull on it, unless you want a serious missile hazard. Remove the hitch and hook the strap to the hitch pin.
if it were my truck i probably wouldn't do it-too much abuse-,call me a prude but i also dont smoke the rear tire on my chopper until it disenigrates(how do u spell that?). but would love to see the video of anyone else doing either one. i agree that this is not a real test of either trucks abilitywhich is another reason for not doing it, but hooking up bumper to bumper is always the loud mouth's first suggestion. i've said it myself to guys. good luck with whatever happens.
I've pulled my buddy's cummins on dirt, and it was just a stalemate. Till he cheated and put in 4 wheel. But I've played tug of war dozens of times with our mudracing trucks and a few times with the dually. And let me tell you brother, I've only done it once and not broken something. Now true, I'll do it again in heartbeat, I'm stupid like that. But the odds are not in your favor on this one. It's truely a game of Victory or Death. If you win, he can't say crap. If you lose, it doubles. And most likely if you lose, he won't quit until you break. But I always root for the underdog, and anything is possible. Go for it. One word of advice though, if you are pulling on pavement, hold the engine RPM just high enough to keep from moving but not breaking the tires loose. Just hold him, when his tires start to spin, ease on the throttle and take him home. Tug of war is about patients. If you slam on the throttle, you WILL lose. Keep a cool head, and you might beat him. Good luck man, and video it. If you don't, you'll be sorry.
Ignore the guy, I have the same thing going at work with a guy that thinks his hemi levitates...he's had it to the shop at least 6 times this last year. A dually has to weigh more than your single wheel so things right out of the gate will be in your buddies favor. If you have money to burn and like doing mechanic work go tear your truck up, otherwise just laugh at him in a few years when his lift pump goes out and the fuel injection system fails lightening his wallet by about 4 grand.
well we settled on not doing the tug of war, but about 10 minutes from us is a really steep hill thats about 1 1/2 miles long. we are gunna start at the speed limit sign, about 1/4 mile into the hill, and have someone else at teh top of the hill to time us. we are gunna see who has the fastest time from the sign to the top of the hill, i think i got this one. ill let you all know what the results are.
you should eat him alive, you have the better gear ratio for this, your trucks lighter, and the stroke has better mid and top range power. You outta beat him by about 2 to 4 seconds I would guess over a 1/2 mile.
Hitch to hitch is awsome but to make it fare pulling up the hill will work best. The dodges only have bottom end and pull to about 2500 rpm. The powerstroke may not get him off the line but once you hit second there will only be tears in your mirrors and smiles in your face.
