My mechanic tells me that there is no longer any source for a new throttle body for my '89 F150 Supercab (351W). Is this true?
Is there an alternative?
My truck starts, but acts like the fuel or the air or both get choked-off when I try to accelerate from a stop. It often dies as a result, and sometimes after I get it started again, it won't move without dying and being started several times. He says, "worn throttle body." I don't doubt this -- I just wonder, now that I am told that there are no new throttle bodies to be had (and used ones are just as likely to be worn) what my alternatives are?
I am obviously not a machanic. Thanks for your patience in reading my post, and (in advance) for responding.
I don't recall what exactly my 95 E150's 5.8 was doing(acting) when it went bad (been a couple years) but the Throttle position sensor on it went bad, this is located on the bottom of the T/B shaft, you have to remove the T/B to access it. I changed it myself, no special tools needed, the sensor can be sourced from most parts houses. Only T/B I saw that had bushing problems was a 93 with a 5.0, the throttle would stick on it.
Grab your linkage and try and move it up and down and back and forth. If ya see no movement where the shaft goes into the body than ya just need the sensor.
Unless you have a vacuum leak somewhere else.
