Taigate skin

Does anybody know of any company that makes a tailgate skin to smooth the recess in a 64-72 styleside tailgate.

Check some of the vendor sites. I have seen them but I can't remember which one in particular.

The original 1964/66 tailgates are hard to find because Ford replaced the earlier years tailgate in the late 1960's with the 67/72 Styleside t/gate. The difference is the 67/72 tailgate has smaller F O R D letters, and an ovate raised trim line around the letters.

Tailgate Weld-in Panels

Hello from MAR-K! We are new to the site - just became a supporter this week.

We have tailgate weld-in panels for the recessed area of the tailgate for 64-66 Stylesides and 67-72 Stylesides. These are available in smooth or with louvers (4, 6 or 9 rows). www.mar-k.com

Thanks for the link to Mar-k. This may be what I am looking for. I am not sure whether my tailgate is 64/64 or 67/72 but I will look Saturday to see. My truck is a 63 so it had the 57-60 wide bed on it. I found an excellent 64 wide bed with no rust and the floor wasn't beat up. I am welding all the seams in the bed and I am going to round the square edge in the sides the length of the bed so that it will match the rear corner(a lot of work). That is why I want the tailgate to be smooth.

My 63 had the stock 57-60 wide bed on it. I bought a 64 wide bed($250, perf. cond., rust free) and am going to use it on the truck. I could not deal with the body lines not lining up properly with the cab so I had to change it. So actually this truck will appear to be a 64 with a 63 grill in it. The tailgate was purchased seperately so I don't know which year tailgate it is.
