Tailgate skin differences 2008-2015???

Tailgate skin differences 2008-2015???
Spent an hour searching this site and Google and cant find a definitive answer.
I want to add a lift assist tail gate to my 2011.(with the pull out step and grab handle).
What years have the same outer skins? Some sources say 08-14 are all the same. Some say 08-10 are the same, then 11-present are the same bla bla...What shins are the same as my 11? I know 08-present will fit and function. But I do know the body lines changed from 2011 up. Im looking for exact outer skin match.
I have an 11 gate with the lift assist thats badly damaged (FedEx dropped it out of a plane at 35000 feet then dragged it to my house with a tow chain).
Will the guts from the damaged 11 gate fit the 08-15 gates?
Im looking at the painted to match units on flebay but they come bare. So I was hoping to simply swap the guts from the damaged unit to the new painted unit.
