I have a 2005 excursion. just woundering if anyone else has had this problem. between oil changes at 3000 miles I am losing oil. not burning it. I have 36,000 miles. I have had a few shops tell me they do this. I got my oil changed and by the time of the next one there was no oil on the stick took about 2 quarts to show on stick. do they really do this I use 5w20. I appreciate any help..thanks
I have a 2000 excursion with the 5.4 gas . I bought the truck with 26k miles on it and I thought I would make it last forever and switched it to synthetic 5w40 imediately. Ive ran that same oil for 90k miles since and mine has always used it I had no leaks it was burning it I believe. I had heard that the 5.4 had extra pistin to cylinder clearance that contibuted too oil consumtion. I usually had too add two quarts on 3k mile change. I just recently switched back too non synthetic oil and am running 5% special aditive. checked it last week and is still in the cross hatch. still too early to know for sure. but seems to be better. or maybe my engine is just broke in. ha,ha.
Interestingly, I had asked my local Ford service manager last week about what I thought was a lot of oil use. I have 38000 miles on my V-10, and I had to put in 2 quarts in the last 4000 miles.
He sad I'm doing fine. When I pressed him a bit on the topic, he produced a Ford spec sheet on the V-10 and it showed that oil consumption without leaks less than 1 quart in 900 miles was within design limits. Since I was burning 1 quart every 2000 miles, he said I'm well within specs.
You could have knocked me over with a feather!!! (or a hood)
I have not heard of this but can tell you no issue with Diesel. I run mine and every 5k change the oil and always have more then enough in that monster oil pan. But then again we are using almost 156 quarts for that rig to get filled. One or 2 quarts wont make much a difference.
