tranny noise

i have a 01 f350 with a 6 speed manual transmission. when idleing or driving (only in gear) i get a loud growling noise, i think i have it pinned down to the bell housing. it goes away if i put the clutch in or put it into nuetral. i took it to a transmission shop and they said, if it goes away at 1000 rpms it isnt a problem, ( i feel if it was not a problem all trannys would do it). a friend of mine told me it may be a dual plate flywheel? if anyone can help i would grately appriciate it

Sounds like either a throw out bearing or input shaft bearing. Trans has to come out for either one.

i am just curious to why the noise goes away at 1000 rpms or higher, and only happens in gear with the pedal not being touched
