Basically, it eats gaskets and turns to sludge in the cooling system. Mine never turned to sludge, but it started showing the telltale signs -- it changed colors (started turning brown) and I noticed some scuzz around the radiator cap. The manual said 5 years or 150,000 miles, and our van had been babied its whole life. Tell you what, read the following link and tell us what you think:
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/autom...m_dexcool.html

That's like the first link that comes up when you Google Dexcool...

Brandon... I wish ... REALLY wish I could go for an Excursion right now. I had planned on paying off my truck when I sold my house in Texas, but 6 months of payments ate up enough to where I just can't squeeze any more cash out of the paycheck right now. Looks like I'll be waiting another year or two. When i do get to looking seriously, though, I'll be checking with you guys who are nearby to scope out all my options.

I finally submitted for sponsorship yesterday. Like a lot of people here finances are tight but the product and value here are priceless. Thanks a lot everyone!

I agree, I bought my truck in August and have saved more from this board than any book could ever teach me. That is why I also became a supporter. Thanks again to everyone who shares

I've got the DEXCOOL too and never would have believed the damage. There are leaks everywhere under my Astro Van: Intake, heads, water pump, heater control valve.
I've already replaced a water pump and just did the radiator 6 months ago. I have only 68,000 miles. DEXCOOL is going to cost me a fortune. Up to about a month ago things seemed fine, then every gasket started letting go. My local C***y dealer says they'll fix everything..... at MY COST. $2500.
My friends, if your GM vehicle has DEXCOOL and over 5 years/50,000 miles you are screwed. Not becuase of warranty expiration, but because the DEXCOOL damage is already done. I'm sure once these leaks are fixed, there will be more to come. Just another reason to buy FORD.

Well, I've been living now two years in America. But nothing would make me to buy a "C#¤"%%#%". It took a while to buy even any American car, but after moving to Texas, you know, you have to have a truck! For some reason I have always had wet dreams of F250 Lariat 7.3 Diesel like 10 years ago, far before I even knew I´m moving here one day. And where I´m from, this kind of trucks are extremely rare due to the taxation and fuel prices.
So now I have the F250 2000 4x4 7.3 CC, 140kmiles, just broke in. Doing all these nice upgrades, seen here. Before I bought the truck I was checking this site multiple times and I knew what I have to do when I'll get my "new" baby.

Other reason why I hate specially those "sub's" and their imbesill drivers, is that one backed into my Audi and run away, she is still in the workshop... had to replace the whole rear side panel, it is made of aluminium and the dent was so bad.
This happened in our private parking area. The sub was in Mexican license plates, I have eyewitness, but that sub has not showed anymore to our area. Waiting that to happen one day... I'm not a rasist, but for some reason I see red whenever I see our beloved "neighbours" license plates and that happens here at least 50 times a day.

Stroking in "very" South Texas

I came across this site in Feb and one of the first things I read was about the oil pans and diff covers rusting out. I checked mine and they were.
Later somebody went off topic and mention about the refridgerators in RV's being bad.
I checked mine and it was on the list.
Now it got off topic about the dexcool in GM's and you guessed it I have an 98 Olds.
What are people replacing the dexcool with?

I'm really glad that I found out about the Oil Pans because I got that fixed under warranty that expires next month.

Thanks! The information available here is worth the investment. All summer long as Camping and Boating Season begins for me and I find less and less time to join in, I would be devastated to come back this fall to find out FTE was gone due to lack of supporters. So I can only hope my contributions help and maybe sway a few others to become supporters as well. The entertainment alone is worth the cost of admission!

My mechanic says replace DEXCOOL with the good 'ol green stuff. Flush entire system property first to avoid gelling problems.
