Theres an auction comming up near me and up for auction is a 79 F-250 Crew Cab 4x4. Theres one pic on the auction houses website and from what I can tell the truck is either an XLT or Lariat with tutone and race track trim. All I can see for the front axle is the hub. Is there any way to determine if its a D60 or D44 just by looking at the hub? Dont bother asking for the auction houses website.lol
Dana 60 has the large style hub, Dana 44 smaller. Depending on the picture, you may be able to tell?. You could attach the picture here on a link, and we might be able to tell you which one it is. The stock axle for that vehicle is a 44
Thats interesting to know there werent any Lariet Crews. Any way I added a pic to my gallery. Im interested for any details anyone else can point out that I missed. And this is the only pic available at this time.
Are you thinking new project with this truck, or are you just after the axle? You can take a tape measure and measure the diameter of the hub. A d60 should be 4 inches across.
Depending on what you can see of the front driving axle, a Dana 44 has a squarish front cover with 10 bolt holes, and a bulge on the right (passenger) side of the cover. The Dana 60 has a rounded front cover with 9 bolt holes, no bulge on the right side.

Im thinkin new project or possible holy grail. Its too far away to go inspect but close enough to go and get if the price is right. This pic and a really short description is all Ive got right now. I emailed the auction house today to see if I can get more pics.
Yes the brown/cream Crew in my gallery.
