hello everyone
my transmission is going down hill fast. i would just get it rebuilt but they want like $1400 to do it. i like the truck and i don't want to get rid of it but i can't spend $1400 right now. i was thinking mabe i could go out to a junk yard and get a manual transmission to swop in.... would this be worth it? would the automatic to manual help my mpg at all? how hard is it to swop a manual into a automatic truck? do i have any other options? any thing would be great thanks
Go to the junkyard and get a used auto tranny. Cheaper than a rebuilt unit, less work than swapping in a manual.
If you truly want to swap to the manual, you'll need the tranny for your engine, the shifter, a manual pedal set, clutch fluid resevoir, master cylinder, lines, slave cylinder, clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel.
what is wrong with it. there is a thread going about fixing these trannies
Matt
Good point. Hate to see someone go through the expense of replacement when it might be a reasonable fix. But at least your in luck. Ford hasn't redisigned the Ranger in some time(this is a GOOD thing). You'll easily have your pick of trannys from the bone yard for a decent price. What do you have, what mileage and what's it doing.
well it is just slipping when i go from 1st to 2nd.... a buddy of mine told me to go get a product by lucas that he says help squeeze alot more life out of your trannsmission. i have been told not to rerplace the transmission fluid, i have herd it will only make it worst... is this ture? i will let you know if that lucas stuff works... how much should i spend on a used transmission? also is there any way i can check to see if the tranny is a good wone with out buying it?
