302 overheating

302 overheating

All, I have a 302(allegedly from a 1968 Mustang) and a C4 auto trans in my 1951 F1 Ford Pickup. I am experiencing overheating when I get caught in stop & go traffic. Can anyone give me some tips about how to go about diagnosing the solution to this problem. Water pump is new incidentally.

New thermostat also?
Let me suggest going to the smallblock (221-351) forum and using the search function

. You'll probably get a gazillion threads on this subject.

Ditto on the forum, otherwise make sure you have a proper fan shroud, a common problem on low speed heating.
