Piston question
My question is can there be a piston that is floating on the pin but the pin is pressed into the connecting rod? reason i asked this is because i was holding up a piston at school and it didnt have clips for retaining, but the connecting rod only moved with the pin, you couldnt move it yourself.

Yessir, there is such a thing. The bosses on the underside of the piston locate the rod. The pins are typically installed by freezing the pins, heating the small end of the rod, pressed together, and allowed to cool, causing an interference fit.

I would only add that the wrist-pin end of the piston should not be touching the bosses of the piston. The rod must have its two bores very parallel - any rod-check includes this test & correction, if needed. The rod is located by its big end on the crank journal and there should be clearance on both sides of the rod at its top end during operation. If the rod's bore's are parallel, no lateral force is present to require separate guidance at the top end. This is true for whether the pin is full-floating or is a heat-shrink fit in the rod.
