I have a 2004 supercrew with the 5.4 and 3.73LS, when I take off from a dead stop it makes a clunk sound. It is not all the time and is not real loud. It just doeswhen you take off, and if I baby it off the line, it is not as noticable. I took it to my local ford dealer and they said nothing is wrong. I know it is not normal, so does anyone have any idea?
Thanks for the help
Kurt
There is a tsb on this I had it also they should know about at the dealer... what needs to be done is to grease the rear spline/yoke on the driveshaft..after it is greased it will be like new!
I had a service tech ride with me, he said it is not the drive shaft. But he also said it is a normal noise. He said that it is due to the Limited slip. So I asked him that if every Ford that comes with a LS makes this noise. He really did not have an answer. So I am going to another dealer so see what they say.
Yes, thank you Jeff. It makes the same noise when I turn to the right and when I am going straight. I have an appoitment with a different dealer tomorrow and I will see what they say.
Tell them to grease it anyway it only takes a short time to do it and they can do it while you wait..my dealer did it and I still have the paperwork it is a TSB they drop the drive shaft clean the splines and lube it up and it stops it... it is not a normal noise! if it was not there before than it is not normal
I have talked to my father-in-law who has had 14 trucks in the 10 years all with limited slip and he said that this is not normal. I am real interested in what the other dealer has to say. It just pisses me off that 2 service techs say that it is normal.
