Putt Putt Putt...
Hello... Before I get started on my problem, I will tell you what all I have done since I have bought my truck.
*Two new batteries
*New glow plugs
*GPR Relay tested fine
*New fuel filter heater
*New starter
The problem I am having is this - When the temperature is around 50 degrees or warmer, my truck will fire up after letting the glow plugs cycle a few times. The only problem is, if it hasn't been ran in 8-9 hours or more, when I go to take off, the truck just PUTTS along. I almost rolled backwards down a hill the other morning! I try going slow but even when I had it to the floor, it still wouldn't go anywhere for about 100 yards. After about 100 yards, everything kicked in and the engine was fine... This seems like it should be something simple (hopefully)... Any help is appreciated!! Thanks!

Checked your oil lately??
Might sound crazy, but....
I've got a friend who just discovered that oil level was the cause of his colder weather puttering. The Stealership had already told him that he needed two injectors. He replaced the GPR with that big honking Stancor relay... nothing helped. Then an "old diesel guy" at a local shop told him to check his oil level before he dropped it off, and BINGO.... it didn't even register on the stick! Once he filled up the oil in the crank case, he said it was almost like having a new engine!
When he called the old guy back up, this old man said that 50% of the diesel problems that come into his shop on these PSD's are fixed by topping off the oil.
Since then, I also found out that this old man does most of the injector work "on contract" for most of the local dealers, and beats their OEM injector pricing by a huge margin... in addition... he offers a 13 month warranty on parts and labor.
For anyone in the Birmingham, AL area, this guy runs Nabor's Radiator & Electric Service.

Whatever you do, let us know what it is if you fix it. Mine does it too. It doesn't do it all the time though. I can't figure mine out though.

Could be. How many miles on the oil? What oil are you running?
I just bought my truck in Feb 06 w/228K miles on it. Last winter was warm down here so I didn't have any cold start probs until this winter.
I normally run Rotella 15W40 in it and I figured that the thick oil was having a hard time building pressure in the oil rails when it's cold on staart up. There are others with this problem. Since it's warmed up some I notice my truck runs smoother, etc.... I'm attributing it to the warmer weather and thinner oil since oil flows better when warm.
I'm switching to 5W40 Rotella synthetic next oil change to see how it does.... I also had a bad GPR. I've also noticed that if I get in when it's cold out and turn the key and try to start after the light goes out it'll chug some until it builds oil presure in the rails, etc....
BUT, if I get in it and let the GP's go until the fuel pump shuts off then crank it'll crank up fine. All of my GP's ohmed out fine, just gotta let them do their job on the cold days and put some heat in those combustion chambers and it'll light off without any chugging at all.....

Who told you that? Diesel fuel will gel in old weather. But there are additives you can use to prevent that, even reverse it should it happen!
Rotella will not gel in cold weather. It might get thick and not flow good until it's warm, but that's just oil being oil....
