fuel milage chip

well i am soon to be getting a ford 7.3 looking for a 99 to 02 4dr long bed 4x4 mostly likely auto xlt lariat. when i get this truck i will be looking to get a chip that will boost my fuel milage and i am wondering what would be the best one for that. i will be doing the typical exhaust and intake plus a tag and all that kind of stuff but im looking for a chip that will help do all that. not looking for all out power though adjust on the fly would be nice for a little extra when i need it

Even though i don't have one yet but i want, i'm sure everyone will chime in and say to check into dp-tuners. I hear they are the chip for the 7.3. They are adjustable on the fly and if you want, i think you can have up to 16 tunes on the chip.

I LOVE my DP-tuner. It is soooo much better than the superchip that I had before. The economy tune does a good job w/ mileage, as long as you have enough self control to keep from playing with the extra power, but i'm sure that is true of almost any chip. If you want a chip it is the one to get.

Chips/Tuners will not increase Fuel mileage!! When you get your truck Check the Fuel mileage for about 5,000 miles (Hand Calculated) before you install a Tuner/Chip then check it after for about the same number of miles. Let us know your results!!

a tuner especially a DP tuner WILL increase your MPG..takes a lot less and I mean a lot less peddle to get moving and climb hills...I drive a road up here in the white mountians to work that is 20 miles of ups and downs and all kinds of curves..the speed limit is 50..it is very hard to keep it at 50 with all the sharp curves....when truck was stock..I had to shut off OD cause it would spend most its time shifting..going from a low RPM to a higher RPM..with my DP I can travel that same road in OD and it will never down shift..even in just the 40 tow..as long as i can keep above 40 mph cause OD will shift down below that any ways..I use my 80 econo most of the time so keeping above 40 MPH is easy to do now...DP will not only give you safe higher HP but he will also tune the Trans for a much better shift..he moves the shift points and up the line pressure as well to get all the extra HP he made right to the ground..its a better set up if you get the BTS VB as well and tell DP this so he can make the Trans even better...last summer my truck was bone stock and I got 17 MPG around town and 21 highway..now with my DP it being winter.. I let my truck warm up 15 minutes in the morning and again at night and I'm running winter blend and I'm still getting 17 MPG in my 80 econo...i should get much better this summer with good fuel and less warm ups..I went on a trip to Florida this Christmas..I set my cruse on 72 and the tuner on 60 tow..I drove non stop only for fuel and tolls and I got 23 MPG....on my way home I drove non stop cruse on 85 and the tuner on 80 econo and I got 18 MPG..if you get a super chip or any thing like that ..then id say yes you will not get better MPG cause all them chips do is dump a lot of fuel and raise the EGT's and does nothing for the Trans....a DP adjust the fuel..the air.and what ever else is needed to keep the EGT's down and then tunes the Trans to make good safe horse power going to the ground...there for.. you have an efficient running motor getting better MPG..if you are not looking to get a lot of power just better MPG then tell DP that.. and he will make that tune do just that..it is a 16 position switch on the fly chip..but you don't need to have all 16 filled..just get what you want..it will come with a stock setting free and you add what ever it is you want..

mobeydick..i see you dont have a DP..maybe you should try it...

I would be more then happy too. I even contacted DP By Email and asked about this Fuel Mileage Increase and said that I would be happy to give there product a try for 5,000 miles. I stated that if I didn't see an Increase in my Fuel mileage I would demand my money back!! Funny thing is I've never heard back from them!!

BTW::::::::: If anyone one out there is part of that company please let me know if you are willing to test this!! I’ll pay up front but if I don’t see an Increase over stock I will want my money back!!

Jody's econ tunes are designed for highway use when you're just crusing. I have seen increases in MPG when traveling from CO to WY but have not put on enough of these road trips to put actual numbers to it. Problem is that most of my driving is in-town. Seems that my right foot gets very heavy on short trips (weight of right foot is proportional to smile on face). Add that with a 80hp tune .... Yep GUZZLE.

How you drive will affect your mileage, with or without a chip.

Having done a lot of hwy mileage towing an 8k lb trailer with and without my Diablo Predator, I have to disagree with that statement. I get in the 10.0 to 10.5 range without the tuner and in the 11.0 to 11.7 range with the tuner. Unloaded, I was seeing 15-16.5 hwy with no tune and with the tuner in the 16.5 to 18.0 range.

I am not sure why you did not get a response. It doesn't sound like Jody. Was it this week? If so, he is working out of town and has had little to no time to respond to emails.

Our 100% money back (minus shipping) policy is for 30 days. Within that 30 days if you are not 100% satisfied with the results of the product you can return it.

http://www.dp-tuner.com/73tuning.htm

Our policy is at the top in blue.

There was a Thread like this over at TDS at the time.

I think it was Dec. 15 or 16 of 06 but I'm not sure. I emailed it, and then took a little trip to get my bumpers. I had my bumpers installed in Atlanta on the 17th. I can't put 5,000 miles on it in 30 days, (I don't drive as much as I used to) but I can put about in 1,800 in 21 days. That's not really enough miles to tell, unless it is a big difference in fuel mileage.

The Email went something like this.

I would like to test your product; some of the Folks at TDS have stated they have had increases in Fuel economy by using one of your products. I’ve visited your site and see you have a 30 day return policy. I don’t think anyone would be able to tell if their fuel mileage would really increase in 30 days or 1,500 miles.
I will be willing to give you $1,000.00 if it increases my fuel mileage over 7,500 miles or about 3 months. That would allow me to be able to account for all the variables involved in figuring fuel mileage.

That offer still stands!!

Mobydick,

We are flattered at your offer. However, there have been many, many of our customers that have done fuel gain tests for us and we have done them ourselves on our own truck to see if this was in fact true over the last 2-3 years. Our shocker was a dt466 Ih that got 6 miles per gallon better on a very long trip around the country last year. That was hand calculated and I am pretty sure with LSD.

The only things right now that would have to be factored in would be off course winter blend and now the new ULSD. We will be testing with the new ULSD and Jody will compare tunes as soon as time allows. As soon as ULSD hit across the country we had numerous calls about fuel mileage decreases. This happened ever winter as well with winter blend.

Diane
