That's almost exactly what I just did too. Along with a couple other things. I went from about 13 to 18 MPG overnight too! And I don't have to worry about dust getting in anymore. I have 4.10 gears and 4 wheel drive so I'm pretty impressed now.
Can I see a picture of your door mirrors please? What year is that too?
Mine has the factory little crappy mirrors on it and I hate them! I pull a horse trailer all over the place and I really need something I can see things with. Heated big west coast types would be great but I haven't found anything advertised to fit a 97 yet.
maybe trucker lights running lights for trailer flash to "talk" to other truckers. aux for power to trailer? backup lights. driving lights got any loose wires up front maybe a bumper swap? just a thought. Just got to the post of the truck nice rig
I would think running would go to the cab roof lights and maybe to any trailer running lights . driving your in grill lamps, aux anybodies guess maybe a loose wire at the fuse box or a bad inline good hunting!!

I re-read this thread this evening and had another thought about your "mystery" switches. Have you tried operating the switches AFTER you turn on your headlights?
Maybe the switches aren't working because they're not wired "hot". They might be piggybacked off the main headlight system. Let me know if this helps. It might be a quicker check than trying to track down a blown fuse or a shorted wire. It it works, post a picture with ALL the lights on at night.
