Talking i'm gonna throw 4500lbs of busted concrete in the bed of a 1/2 ton!

my wife is sooooooooooo clueless. she does not know about my trucks, the 80 doesnt run and is gonna get fully rebuilt and the 89 is a beater to do the work until the 80 is ready. they are both 3/4 ton 4x, the 89 is a heavy duty 3/4 and a manual that should probably be fixed up. anyways i've been talking about buying a truck and joking with her but she jokes back and says no. instead just borrow her parents trucks. an f150, and a 1500 gmc. well my theory is borrow something once, and even twice, but if you need it 3 times you need to own it, or one like it. so i need a 3/4 ton to haul the car, and do heavy work. she just doesn't get it. so i wanted to make a point, i told her i was gonna break up the bad spot in our driveway, about 9 yards of concrete, haul it to the dump, buy a skid or more of concrete, borrow a mixer and repair it. so smart guy says..." honey call your dad tell him i want to throw 4500lbs of concrete, in his truck and haul it to the dump. on the way back i'm gonna pick up the buddies 1.5 yard truck pulled mixer, and go to menards and pick up a skid of concrete mix. then i'm gonna fix the driveway." she said ok i'll let him know. wha? is she out of her mind. somebody asked to do that with my truck i would nut punch them and leave them crying in the gutter. me doing it to my own truck is different. she just has no idea that there are different grades of trucks and what you can do with them. her whole argument is that she doesnt want a vehicle sitting in our driveway. so i'll let you guys know how the 150 does on my driveway project. sounds like a kid used to be around here that did "amazing" things with his v6 powered 150, huh? maybe not, actually i will bring the 89 home this weekend just in time for our trip to my cousins wedding in germany. nothing like being with your wife in a foreign country, while she hates you and wants to kill ya! oh well, i'm gonna let her tell her dad anyways, just to see if he is as clueless as she is. i'm guessing a yes. woohoo, you know if i do this project at night i can shine squirrels with the headlights of that 4.6 powered f150. Dan

1971. I had a good friend get married. While he was in the ceromony, myself and another guy backed a concrete truck up to his two day old Chevy Silverado 1/2 ton truck. We had ordered a special mix of mostly gravel, sand and just enough cement to make it look like the real thing. We were all builders back then, and knew the ready mix plant guys real well. We filled the back of his bed with this mix. His bumper was almost on the ground. I cannot repeat the words said, when he and his wife saw the truck.

It was funny seeing a guy in a tux shoveling like crazy in the back of a pick up truck!

This guy was my best friend. He died last year of a heart attack on a hunting trip. He was 53. I will always miss him.

So if you break or destroy the half-ton, are you going to pay to fix it or buy a replacemnt?

We put about that much load in a 1963 GMC half-ton. Actually, it was only the tires that I worried about. It had the V-6 and three-on-the-tree.

there is no way it could box full of 35mpa crete it would blow the tires, bend or break the springs and that would depend if the box could contain it. ford, chev and dodge would have to use their heaviest truck to take that weight.

if thats the case i don't think the f150,gm 1500 or the ram 1500 could do it it would do serious damage.

i only compared the tundra because they only make one size were the others make many models.

71dusterdan, please don't say that you're actually going to do that to a half ton... just because your wife may not know that a half ton can't handle that much load doesn't give you a reason to go massively overload it just to prove it to her. If you want to screw up your own truck that's one thing, but screwing with her dad's is a whole other mess.
