I'm finding it unusually difficult to find factory gas caps for my '73 F350. The style is the non-locking painted cap with the thick ridge running fully across the diameter. I believe they were used from '73 to '75, with the '76's moving to the gas door (or maybe '77's did?). For the part number experts, did Ford use this same gas cap design on other car models of the same era, or is the cap unique to the pickup only?
There's no issue finding the chrome w/black handle replacements, but I'm looking for the painted oem type for the factory stock look. I can't tell on the Rockauto chart if that's what they have.
Voltson, Let me know if you find one, because I need one too!
Mil1ion, I am a bit confused, when I go to your rockauto link, I don't see the "FC" on the part numbers, for the most part they are all 5 digit numbers.
Thanks, for the help!
I had no luck finding a "paintable" cap for my '76. I ended up purchasing the correct replacement from NAPA, but like you said , it was chrome. I then removed the black handle and sandblasted the chrome to get rid of the shine and ruff up the surface. Then I primed and painted it. The paint seems to sticking ok since I did this more than a year ago. I left the plastic handle black because it was textured and may have looked odd painted to match, put it's still an option.
Not a perfect solution but it looks so much better than the chrome!
I was looking at Dennis's link and STANT Part # 10731 looks close and it doesn't look like chrome. Need to measure to be sure.
Do the factory 73-76 painted caps interchange with any other Fords of that era? I've seen Pinto gas caps that look similar, but may not be the right size.
