Hi, everyone! I'm new to FTE and have been sitting back and reading post to soak up as much info as possible. I have a 2001 F250 7.3 PSD with 57,000 miles on it. It's my first diesel and I'm lovin'it!! The problem I have is that while driving, it hiccupped for a split second which sent the check engine light on. It was as if you were talking and hiccupped but didn't stop talking, just kept on going. The check engine light was off the next time I started it up, but I took it to the dealer for a code check. The code # was P0344, which they said was a cam sensor. Is that correct? If so can anyone direct me to pictures to help guide me in it's replacement if it's as simple as the crank positioning sensor is? I don't want to pay the dealer $350 if I can do it myself! Thanks, FTE 7.3 forum rocks!!!
Welcome to the forum.. Check the following link.. it will tell how to change the CPS, which is likely your problem.. You can get them on ebay or International dealer.. Don't buy them from Ford.. too much money.. Crawl under the front of the engine and look up toward the water pump and the pass. side of the engine front. You will see the sensor which has a angle bracket attached to the front portion of the sensor.. Easy to change.. see: http://www.7point3.com/mods.aspx
It was as if you were talking and hiccupped but didn't stop talking,
That's a good explaination of a CPS going bad. It's located on teh front of the the engine near the harmonic damper @ ~10 o'clock. 10 MM socket and a flat blade screw driver will will remove it. You have to crawl unser the truck to get at it. 1-10 on the effort scale is a 2.....very easy. Get it off eBay ~$50 if you can wait or willing to take the chance it's going to leave you on the side of the road. When they die there usually dead....your on walk! Buy 2 and keep a spare in the glove box.
