I started taking apart my son's wrecked 99 ranger today. Man is it hard to see it this way. Luckily the engine was untouched. The salvage offers were an insult (as expected) and I can't justify fixing it back up. So, I am going to part it out. I should do ok. I have room to store it next to the garage and I have an old boat cover to protect it. Maybe I can get another one like it and have a ton of replacement parts.
If anyone needs any hard to get little things like special bolts, connectors or whatever, let me know. I may just put it in an envelope and send it to you. I got a lot of great advice from this forum and hopefully I can give something back.
Also, I have a great drivetrain, bed and interior if anyone is interested. Just pm me.
im really not suposed to let these posts run but im going to turnm the other way. guys just take this to private message and ill leave it here. thanks alot
If I remember correctly, it was a front end hit, right? If so I would be curious which rear end gears you may have. If the hood is intact, I am interested in the hinges. Also the passenger marker light socket, if it survived. Feel free to pm me a response.
CougarXR02...lemme look around my garage and see if I can find the hood hinges I bought for my Ranger...I think I still have a brand new set from Ford sitting here somewhere...much well built than the ones that are in the truck stock, but I couldnt remove the stockers so I left them in place.
sounds good. whenever you get the chance, I dont need the truck back together for several weeks yet, and I am still working on the fenders and header panel.
None of the above except the gears survived the impact. I have cleaned the truck up and it actually drives just like before for short distances. (no coolant)
I am now thinking about finding a rear end wreck or something that needs a drivetrain swap. Surely I can make one good truck from the right two. LOL
I am going to try like heck to keep my son driving a Ranger.

Thanks for checking. Good luck with the project. I was fortunate enough to have a low enough impact speed to not damage the frame rails, so it is just a new header panel, lights, and I am just gonna straighten the metal portion of the front bumper for now, all the bumper plastics survived quite well, only a couple cuts. Fenders got a couple tweaks in the corners near the bumper, but for now i am just massaging them close til I have the $$$ to get new ones, or even better find the correct color fenders in a junkyard.
Amazing the hood didn't take any damage, but the hinges buckled under the pushing at the hood latch area. I have been having good luck finding junkyard and aftermarket parts pretty cheap.
As an aside, my buddy just found a '98 ext. cab ranger 4x4 with a seized motor, and a trans. case noise for 1200 on craigslist, so something like that just needing drivtrain and no body may be a better way to go if you can happen upon such a truck.
I always find it interesting how the plastics seem to do the best in a crash. I was in a wreck that took out the bumper, header panel, hood, driver's front fender, headlights, turn signals, all the trim, etc. and the grille ended up without so much as a scratch.
