what about an 03?

Hi folks, I'm looking at an 03 F-350 7.3 crew cab 4x4 dually and I was wondering if there's any thing different between the earlier models. I understand the option to choose the 6.0 started in 03, so I thought there might be some drive train differences or maybe some chassis differences that I might not know about. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Also, how big a deal is it to swap the turbo wheel between the 03 and my early 99 7.3?

Thanks, Randy

Early '03 models came with the 7.3L. So if you get a mid to late '03 you're looking at a completely different engine and transmission if it's an automatic. 7.3L's were mated with a 4 speed auto, the 4r100, and the 6.0L's had a five speed behind them, the 5r110.

Welcome to FTE!!

The '03 7.3L engine was the most "mature" 7.3 offered, being the last year it was available. If I understand and remember everything I've read correctly, the wheel in your early 99 is the same one that a lot of folks buy today (today is called the "wicked wheel") to install in place of their post '99 model year wheels when they are trying to resolve turbo surge issues (which can be a problem when pulling heavy loads).

I haven't changed a wheel myself, but I see so many references to the fact that lots of folks do thei own that I can't believe that it's too hard to do. Below are a couple of links to some good mod and maintenance web pages that have tons of information.
