Installed DP - WoW!

Just got my DP tuner this afternoon. I am completely amazed at how my 200K mile truck drives. I got my two or three full throttles out of my system. Good thing I stopped at the 80 econo - I don't want to waist my tranny (I'm pretty sure the 80 would do it anyway). I've always been able to get some smoke with my stock PCM, but can black out the street with my 80 econo. Is that normal? This thing is REALLY fast and my tranny shifts so much nicer. I went with stock, 60 tow, and 80 economy. The 60 tow is very smooth shifting and the 80 is just plain fun. Can't wait to drive to the dentist tomorrow! :-)

Ron was right - Jody really has the early XLE code figured out. I just can't believe the difference.

congrads...its a blast isnt it??? my truck will blow the black smoke if I get right after her in the 80 econo..so yes that is normal...you should see the 120 lol..did you do the BTS vb?? and do you have a tc lock?? if not id check into them..they will put all that power right on the ground rather then let the trans slip it away..better hide the check book and charge cards now..this is where PMS realy gets tricky lol have fun....

I'm looking at getting the same setup as you Ron. How long did it take to get the tuner?
Does anyone know if the 80 econo improves MPG?
Should I have a stock setting for Michigan winter cold start?

Ron -
I had ordered the tuner before we talked about the VB. I'm really happy with the drivability right now and don't do any towing at the moment so I may leave everything as is for now. I do intend to get the BTS VB at some point. My brother and uncle both have some nice F250s (newer). Can't wait to let them take it for a drive.

I can see where the 80 econ would increase mileage. Hardly any throttle needed to get up to 65 and the tranny is helping out so much with the shifting. I'm going to top off my tank and check the mileage. I don't a bunch of hot rodding so I should be able to get a decent check.

Question

I have the dp-tune 60 tow 80 econo and 120 race along w/ the bts vb. I really dont get any smoke when i get on it though. I just figured it was tuned not to waste fuel or you have to ask for a smoker tune etc.

Since Ron and I have Early 99 XLE code, I bet it has something to do with the different injection components used on the early 99s.

I know, I miss my DP tuner already-I sent it back last week to get some more programs on it-I already had the stock, 60 tow and 80 eco, but now am getting the 120 and smoke tunes added-waiting patiently......
Driving the truck now stock really sucks.....
Mike, if you are in Michigan, I would get the stock program for those cold mornings. Here in Minnesota, some mornings were -25 below, and if I started it on any program other than stock she really makes noise.... I usually start it on stock until it reaches Normal Operating Temp, then switch it over.

Started my truck this morning in 80 econo and it made a quick "romp". Started easy, just sounded different than my hot starts yesterday using the same tune. Is that typical? Do most users start in stock mode with a cold motor?

Thanks Highmark.
Oh I know those cold MN mornings. I moved from there (St. Augusta) to MI. Still head back a few times a year to visit family.

when its below 40 degrees I leave my truck in stock mode until it is fully warmed up then i switch tunes, this way you get the high idle warm up mode and the EGBV kick in to warm up the engine sooner, Now this week its in the 60's and high 40's at night ( ny) so I left it in the 60 tow last night and it ran fine. Thats how I have been using my tuner. I just installed it in early Feb so im still getting used to it. The only thing is I tought id have more smoke with the 80 and 120 mode. I heard it could be the new ultra low fuel also causing less smoke.. Jeff

I got my tc lock and exhaust brake set up from http://www.spdiesel.com/ it all runs off of the cruse control..you can set what speed to lock and unlock..OD has to be off for tc to stay locked..in OD it still locks at the set speed but when you let off the throttle its like a stock tranny..feels like neutral when OD cuts out..it also turns the ebpv into an exhaust brake.. again all automatic off of the OD button and the throttle peddle..I love the product and it works real well..took a little getting used to but now I love it and I'm lost when its not on and i use lot more brakes.....if you want to feel what that chip can do you need to get some kind of tc lock..they also have just a tc lock as well with no exhaust brake ..just look around..

I had my DP tuner in less then a week..yes the 80 will save you mpg..I was getting 17 last summer with a stock truck..this winter I let my truck run 15 minutes in the morning and again at night...I am also running winter blend ..I start and let my truck warm in stock..a mile down the road I switch to 80 econo..and I'm still getting 17 mg..I just got my tunes in October..I bet it gets better in the summer..the DP is a 16 position chip..you don't need to fill all 16..get what you want..but its 250.00 for the chip with a stock setting (ball park figure) so you will have stock any how..yes you should start in stock in cold weather..I do any time my truck is cold..even in the summer..let the gauge come up off of the cold mark then switch to 80...also stock is good for trouble shooting....
