Hey guys, I need some help. I found a truck. Im in love with it lol. Heres some background on the truck before i ask the questions. Ok its a 1993 F-350 Single Cab long box. Really nice shape. It has the air bags in the back, Nice wheels, 5 speed Manual, Its perfect. Now heres the kicker. It has a 1993 Ford Turbo Diesel in it. Thats all that it says. It has a picture of the engine and the cover says turbo diesel. It doesnt have the smaller engine cover its a huge one. It also says A new block at 100,000 and theres 188,000 on the truck totally. But heres my question. Is the PCM the same as it would be in a 1994 and a half? Would i be able to chip this truck? Thanks guys
I don't belive they went to powerstrokes untill 1994.5. If the 8th spot in the vin number is an F then its a powerstroke and you can chip it but if not then you can't. But im pretty sure its an IDI. I love those trucks too though. Great looking truck.
nope its not a powerstroke. it doesn't have a pcm as there is no electronic control of the engine. So no chip. King I know what you have been looking for and what you would like to do with it and you will not be happy with this truck. it will have power but it will not be quick or fast. It will be nothing like your dads truck. You can upgrade it but you will need to ask questions of the 7.3 indirect injection guys a forum below this one. But really even though it sounds like a nice truck I don't think you will be happy with it performance wise.
My dad has a 93 like your talking about. The only thing we have done to it is turn the pump up on it. There is a plate on the passenger side of the injector pump (hard to get to) but inside there is a allen head screw that you turn about 1/4-1/2 turn. Check out the forum for older model trucks they will have a better write up on it with possible pictures.
That is a nice looking truck for sure but its definatley not a powerstroke. There are two different 7.3 diesel that ford offered around that time. the naturally aspirated indirect injection 7.3 and the turbo indirect injection 7.3 neither of them electronically controlled. In 94.5 is when the 7.3 direct injection "powerstroke" turbo diesel started. It is electronically controlled and can be chipped. The 94.5 powerstroke were also badged with the "turbo diesel" emblem
WOW thats an awesome looking truck. Its about 700 dollars out of my price range tho. I found a truck that im looking at rite now. In my price range. 1997 F250 Turbo Diesel 5 speed. Its a beautiful looking truck. We will have to see what i can do. My birthday is in 5 days and thats when i can acually buy my truck. I cannot Wait!
That Red truck, the miles are on the high side for me. Is that ok to buy a truck with that many miles? I know that its mostly on the previous owner and by the looks of the truck he took care of it. The truck im looking at has 196 Thousand on it.
I just bought my crew cab with 219k on it with out a worry! It was a rust free truck from Missouri so that was my biggest concern. Much of it depends on how well the previous owner took care of it and how much work it needs. I dropped over $1,000 in repairs to my truck when I got simply because the previous owner didn't get things repaired when they should have. tire, brakes, suspension and fluids all had to be done.
Yea i already plan on doing a coolant flush, (if it needs it) Trans flush new oil, fuel filter and maby axles. I want this truck to be perfect. As you know i drive my dads 2002 Powerstroke. I like it and all but its just not mine. I get this weird feeling when i drive it like he can take it away from it in a second. But with my own he cant. So i cant wait. Im excited.
