Round 1

So round one of trying to take that shortbox I bought off, was extremly unsuccessfull. All the bolts turned, and they dont allow welders or grinders, but they do allow sawzalls. So Im gonna check around and see what i can find for some good blades for cutting those good grade bolt heads off,

Hey I'm takin my box off my 57 today, my battle plan is just to torch them of course. But as for trying to get a grip on the bolts I guess try and use a pair of vise grips if yo can get a buddy to help you.

Vice grips wont work, tried it, those damn bed bolts dont stick up very high from the box floor. Think Im gonna try to drill them out, then hammer the hell out of it!

if your going to try cutting them with a sawsall, get somt Dewalt demolition blades. they're a bit of money but they sure do a pile of tough cutting.

Getting a truck box off is no fun, even in a fully equiped shop.
I`ve tried alot of different ways, a combination of drilling, torch and grinders. Nothing seems to work all that well because of the lack of room. It`s real bad time if the box is to be reused and you don`t want to do any any damage to it.

I just cut the heads of the bolts and bash the floor out with a sledge hammer. Wait, you have one of those new fangled metal floor beds.

wonder if you could put a cutting wheel in a cordless drill...might work. a coal chisel and a 2 lb sledge would work too, but as Fom says, there's diddly squat for room there..........hmmmmmmm, just had an idea...how bout a guy was to cut the bed floor around the bolts. lift her off then a little bit of patch work and your good to go!!

Actually I cheated I hate using a torch from beneath, bad expierence. So I shovelled out the grain auger out of the snow and dad cut off my box and took it off.
